BlackBerry versus iPhone

3G iPhone

According to Gartner analyst Ken Dulaney, Apple has placed an order for 10m 3G iPhones. That's in addition to the 10m original iPhones Apple has said it expects to sell this year, Dulaney told website The iPod Observer.

That should make things interesting, but it still doesn't resolve basic integration issues. I would also argue that comparing iPhone and blackberry is unfair because what they really comparing the iPhone to is the blackberry running in conjunction with the blackberry server.

Business users once again the SDK has been downloaded more than 100,000 times, Apple is giving the nod to only a small sliver of developers hoping to use it to create applications.

um, exsqueeze me?

And all this doesn't even apply to us considering the iPhone isn't even sold here...

hmmm...got both but using iphone. why? Simple and easy integration to all mail systems, best browsing on mobile device by far - which is the only downfall of the current crop of BB devices and iphone is really fast via wi-fi. I actually never realized how many wi-fi hotspots there was until now...

The actual main reason why I'm not using BB at the moment is because of the lack of reliable sync to an Macbook - and no I'm not paying $80 odd US for 3rd party software and no the RIM supplied software only works once in 20 tries - if that.

But still love that 8310 and both can be used equally well as a business tool - Blackberry only lacks the "fun" factor but then again it's an all out business tool.

BlackBerry or iPhone: Which horse will you back?
neither! support is either lacking and/or does not exist here

Where does Pocket mac fail for you?

So where is the nokia s60 device? I'd vote it over both any day - I have been around the block with these things and it comes back to the same thing... 1) keep it simple 2) affordable 3) make sure there is software available for those folk who don't only want the out of box experience.
I would have said windoze based phone for the software thing, but imo windows is only good on a more clunkier pda... which is another item alltogether imo. The blackberry can be clunky tho - without the software. As for push email... pffft

loving my E51 with MFE... it works

Agreed...S60 by far beats other devices, simply because there are applications out there for almost anything you could ever wish to do with your phone.

Yep... am I wrong in assuming the Nokia S60 platform is the silent hands down winner in the smartphone bracket (in terms of numbers)?
Anyone hazard a guess?

Ya, must say I have no motivation to swap my E61 for the current iPhone. Sure its slick & sexy, but thats all about style with little in the way of substance (esp. for business users). I have yet to find a phone that has this combination of ability ...

VoIP - no bs clunky app, SIP is built into the base OS/dialer.
MS ActiveSync - natively sync email, contacts, calendar, task directly with Exchange server over WiFi or 3G
Global Addr Search - quickly search Exchange server's GAL for any info
Proper Windows Messenger Live - not some 3rd party clunck app
Proper HTML browser - not as good as the iPhone's, but not too shabby either

and the clincher ...

One handed operation - due to form factor, large screen & front mounted full keyboard inc. joystick, every function (email, sms, browse, IM etc.) can be operated single handidly (e.g. while driving).

Yes the 3G iPhone (v2) will provide a lot of the above, but by then the E71 will be around ... think I know which way I will go.

I would add a slide-out qwerty keyboard to do proper e-mails and text. I think phone keypads are largely to blame for the inability to write proper messages we see today.

But, for sure, a numeric keypad on the front.

And make it just like any other phone? I dont see Jobs going down that road.

Oops a should have been another ... E61 does the list. Thought of another ...

Decent battery - 2 days with everything switched on, active & being used (no standby bs) e.g. phoning, SIP over work/home WiFi when in range, Activesync every 15 min over 3G, bluetooth on, browsing in traffic via 3G etc.

What about Fring? Being an S60 I assume it works with Fring (mobile skype).
