Bleeding gums

I bought a new toothbrush that I used for 2 days and then stopped using it because of how it made my gums bleed and switched back to my old one, but now I seem to have this problem where my gums bleed everytime I brush, when I spit the toothpaste out its pretty pinkish red sometime, even now as I sit, if I suck kind hard on my cheek I can feel me sucking some blood from my gums and this is even after a few hours of brushing. I'm having a hard time to get to the dentist atm and dunno if this is something I really need to get checked out, or something that will just pass after awhile. I'm not getting any aches or pains in my gums and the colouration of the gums seem fine.
 
Nothing to worry about. Common problem that happens when changing to a new toothbrush. You may have receeding gums and therefore the new toothbrush causes it to bleed possibly due to the bristles being harder. Keep brushing with the new toothbrush, let it bleed. It will only last for a few days and then your gums will get healthy and stop bleeding.
 
What toothpaste are you using? I started using Colgate Optic White in December and for the last month or so my gums have been bleeding every time I brush. A quick google shows this is a common symptom for people using this toothpaste for extended periods of time.

Really makes you wonder about all the health products you use.

Bleeding gums tends to indicate poor dental hygiene.

Floss, brush your teeth at least twice a day and possibly use a good mouthwash (I'd suggest something fairly gentle like the non-alcoholic Colgate mouthwash, that blue one).

If it doesn't stop bleeding in around a week, see a dentist.

Some things my dentist taught me a long time ago: brush at least twice a day, floss at least once a day, always use a soft toothbrush (hard ones are prone to cause your gumline to recede) and use a gentle mouthwash.

I'm fortunate to say that I've never had any significant dental issues. I used to brush too hard when I was a teen, which caused my gumline to recede a bit and caused sensitive teeth. So these days I use Sensodyne Repair and Protect with Novamin. Stuff works like a bomb.

Don't brush too hard - don't grip the toothbrush in your hand, hold it between your thumb, index and middle finger. Then softly brush in small circles. Bleeding is either caused by you damaging your gums, or by plaque build-up next to your gums (meaning you're removing all the bacteria and therefore bleeding is a good sign :p)

As Lycanthrope said, brush either twice or thrice a day and try to floss daily (use a thin floss like Oral B's satin floss to prevent damaging your teeth and gums).

Gentle yet effective. Colgate optic white / original also makes my gums bleed but I've been alternating with the salty colgate and herbal white. Or I'll brush twice a day with a gentle toothpaste and only once with the strong one. There's a Plax (I think) mouthwash with salt too, which is very gentle and could also help. The more I floss the less bleeding I get, so yes, floss, brush, rinse.
 
If your gums bleed when brushing what happens when you floss? Bleeding gums is a sign of mild bacterial infection, clean your mouth better!
 
Go to the dentist. You most likely have tartar build-up at your gum-line or worse, gingivitis. Both treated quite easily by a visit dentist and Orochlor.
 
Maybe the toothbrush is too hard for you. Try a new but softer one. Rinse your mouth with Corsodyl everytime you brush your teeth. Keep it in your mouth at least one minute. It works very fast.

Best toothbrush ever. I only ever use those.

Not necessarily. My gums bleed quite a bit and both the dentist and surgeon said my mouth is perfectly healthy.

Could it be that you need extra vitamins? Have you tried Corsodyl? My gums sometimes bleeds too and Corsodyl really helps. I sound like an old lady believing in one thing :p.

No its probably just from brushing too wildly with extra strong whitening toothpaste :D

That sucks...
My gums also bleed but that's only while brushing then it stops.
 
Go and see a dentist or oral hygienist ASAP. You might have a gum infection from tartar build up, which they can sort out easily. The problem is that this can lead to irreversible gum recession. That road ends in dentures.

Get it looked at.
 
If you brush your teeth twice a day, you should not be experiencing any bleeding. If you are, you're brushing too hard or you don't floss often enough.
 
My dentist always suggest rinsing your mouth with a bit of lukewarm salt water to help with bleeding gums.
