Blizzard comments online only D3

Don't any of you have internet at home?

It's not about that. If I wanted a MMO I would have joined one of the hundreds out there. I want D3 for the single player /offline playing.

You'll still be able to play single player, just not offline.

Yes and you will have to purchase addons like you do in MMO's, apparently there will be drops but most of the kick ass stuff will have to be purchased. I want a hassle free game. Not to have to check my latency everytime I feel like playing a round. I also don't see why I have to continue to fork out my cash once I have purchased the game already.

Welcome to the new pricing model... I'd hedge a bet that game houses are selling the standalone games at a loss and then recouping costs through DLC.

The thing is Diablo 2 had both offline/LAN play and online via dedicated battle.net servers, but you couldn't play the same character on both.

This split between single and multiplayer just wouldn't make much sense in current times(nor did it back then), but allowing singleplayer(as in your own PC is the host/server) characters be playable online allows for many forms of cheating, item dumping etc. This was also a major problem with Diablo 2 online because everyone already had a (simplified) copy of server programs on their PC that they could analyze and reverse engineer to find exploits, resulting in huge amounts of item dumping among other exploits.

With Diablo 3 people will only have the client software available so finding server exploits will be that much harder(but not impossible)

D3 is blizz's way of saying open your wallet and I'll let you play ;)

The more I read about the RL cash auction house and micro payment system the more I am leaning towards Torchlight 2 for my Dungeon Crawler of choice.

I dont mind subscription based games, I played WOW for 6 years. I do mind the pay for content based ones, esp when they "force" you to do so, part of the reason WOW died for me as a person, all this pay to move character pay to change your realm pay to change faction, pay to get this mount or that pet. I am sure next they will go Pay for this sword and pay for that head piece.

Wtf are you talking about? You can only use money on the RMAH (Real Money Auction House), where other players have to put up items they have found. There is no way to spend real money on items without them first dropping for someone. There is also a separate normal gold auction house, and the RMAH is not available on Hardcore. You never have to spend money past the initial purchase if you don't want to.

Sure the online part really sucks, but the money thing is something you can just ignore.

Will have to see how true that is when the game comes out. Will I buy it, sure even just to check it out. How long it lives depends on the money issues. The moment I feel like I need to spend real life $$ to progress is the moment I will move to something else.

Loot will still be dropping randomly - you will have the same chance of getting item x as anyone else does. The only difference is that you can now decide to sell the item(for inhale gold or real money) through OFFICIAL channels to other players.

It may still seem as if some items are only available to buy because you see it as the drops you get versus stuff on the market, but its actually drops you get versus drops 1000 other players get that they can't or don't want to use.

They did make an announcement about the best gear being only available in a new inferno difficulty, but this is something anyone can play(after your character is the max level of 60 and you finished the game on hell difficulty)

I have to admit I have not read all the articles or press releases related to this. The ones I have read seems to point to one having to purchase things to progress in the game. If this is not the case I apologise. If it is then I won't be buying the game. I am NOT going to constantly spend money to play a game I have already purchased.

The area I live in has really crap DSL so if there are issues with a constant connection it will nail me with the always online requirement. (I have a drop about every 15 minutes or so) it's fine for work and citrix (handles the drops like a bossss :D ) but anything else is painful.

How long does the drop last? If it's short enough, it might not affect the game. I am having similar problems with my WoW atm where the connection drops every 5 minutes for anything between 1 to 5 seconds. Sometimes, I only notice a lag spike, but if the drop is more than 3 seconds, then WoW usually disconnects.

I think that D3 won't work like WoW, where everything happens on the server. I'm hoping that everything will run locally and it only updates the character/loot/whatever else to the server at regular intervals.

It's a very fast drop, (same length as yours approximately)

I hope for the same.

thats what i did with black ops . purchased original , havent bought any add on packs . the most expensive pc game for me was the last remnant going for R600. never again. long game but never again. if blizzard carries on like with what they did with d2 and the expansion then thats fine. pay for original + expansion pack later on = free constant updates etc.

i highly doubt you will have to fork out real money to get cool items and i highly doubt it will have the wow like expansions that are like 890. (i think the maximum expansions will be 2 or 1 even) theres only so much you can do with diablo and its story before it gets corny ;)

RE: your connection

has telkom checked it out before ? wireless options ? 3g ? surely telkom must have upgraded the exchange or the wiring there already ? or is it just a bad area with factories and electric fences all over ?

We have a hospital down the street where they are building/renovating. The exchange sits on it's premises (not sure why) since they started the building and renovations my connection has gone to @#%. Logged it with Hellkom numerous times, they just keep saying it's ISP. I show them that it's the same with different ISP, they just say it's ISP's on the same backbone, proved that it wasn't that and they say that it's my router, swapped out the router, showed them it's the same issue, they claim it's some EM interference somewhere and it's not their job to fix that. So I left it. Not worth the aggravation.

Not sure if this is news...
Real world money will definately be used via paypal..
Was looking forward to this game but i dont think i will be getting it...

Is this just an online game or are there offline campaigns?

I dont wanna waste my money on cyber potions, armour etc just to enjoy the game...
