Blizzard comments online only D3

Interesting concept, not sure if I am crazy about it... It is definitely better than trying to have to pick up loot with a 250ms latency against someone with a 50ms latency though.

I'm going to wait and see. If the game requires a constant connection to play then I'll wait for the offline pirated version. By constant I mean that it is constantly downloading and if my ping or connection is bad then the game will be unplayable. If it just needs to do an online check every 5 mins or so, then I am fine with that and will buy the game.

In south africa so in effect speed wise it's still around 1995 when compared to the US.

in the back of my mind, i still squint when i think about it in terms of adsl speed.... but its true what you say. my 384 line should be a easy 8mb line by now sigh. i meant that dsl should be available even for people who dont earn alot. thread derailed sortof .....

back to the topic ....

HELL YEAH D3 .... cant wait for it .... maybe i can? im starting to lose interest slowly each month that passes... but beta has been said to be and thats good and all things wonderful, please just release it already.

I'm just trying to work out what the monthly bill would be for me to play D3 (I really have been looking forward to this since I finished D2 10 or more years ago for the first time). 3g modem is my only viable possibility and only Vodacom can give me 3g (all the rest are edge or worse at my place). Monthly subscription added and I could buy a game a month for the cost to play 1 game.

"sorry honey, it's bread and water this month, I gotta up my levels"

If all the stuff mentioned here is true I will buy the game and crack it. However, if I have to "buy" stuff to get forward in the game I will NOT buy the game.... As said earlier, I want D3, not Wow dressed as D3

Your forgetting we're in SA ;) your not really living in 2011 are you?

so far so good :p my 384 unshaped has been ok when it comes to latencies. Could be faster... maar nou ja:D

in SA in terms of dsl, i would say we are in 2003 lol. mobile broadband is another story, which is getting really really cooler with each news bulletin that comes out regarding it.

I don't think you understand what the 'online only' involves. Unless things change a lot before release, the game will use client-server architecture a lot like WoW and so you'll need to wait until someone creates an emulated server, like they did for WoW. You won't get day 1 cracks like other games.

edit: here is the link I'm sure people will ask for.

I thought it would be more drm than managed game play (just checking validity instead of playing the actual game through the web) if this is indeed the case I will live without it.

Yeah, I thought the same thing, and that it would just be about characters being stored online and certain things validated, but it really looks like WoW-lite, which is disappointing.

I rarely use this term, but in this case I would have to say Blizzard has earned it. Epic fail!

i hope they add an offline option, like IE : only after the game has been validated etc etc then the offline feature becomes available. i mean come on, i used my old phone to valid games back in the day when i had no internet and to be fair it doesnt take alot of net. Wishful thinking as they have already decided but who knows

Hmm, so I guess I won't be playing this game then. Just like I have not played Starcraft 2 either. Blizzard has lost a fan.

I don't understand the big fuss about this, sure it's online only, but hey the internet is so good these days, my ping to EU is 170-200 and that is on a crappy account, that is shaped...........

Internet stability and pricing in South Africa sucks. It is too unreliable and too expensive to get any kind of enjoyable experience out of playing online.
The entire time you can't help but be distracted by the awful lag and constant thoughts of how much this is costing you.
It's even worse when you have teenage kids and they also want to play online at the same time.
And that's on Telkom 4 mbps... I would hate to see how other methods of connection fare.
