Check out what they are saying about Internet near the bottom of the article. :erm: ROFL as I read it, obviously these guys haven't been living here for more then 1hour....

And at this point in time, essentially everyone is connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi networks or a local broadband connection, so there was no reason why they couldn't create an online-only game.

Still, what about those people who have faulty, unreliable connections? "Erm… upgrade the wiring in [the] house?" Wilson said. "I mean, in this day and age the notion that there’s this a whole vast majority of players out there that don’t have online connectivity – this doesn’t really fly any more." He then pointed out that he could access nine networks just from his hotel room alone.

"You’ve got to make choices about what you want to do, and sometimes those choices are going to make some people unhappy, but if you feel like it’s what is the right thing to do to making a better product then you have to do it," he said.

I totally support the notion of only playing a game online ( I play wow). But the comments are just insane, and they want to see this game sell here? Haha, low user base to sell this to blizzard  Good job.

But yet again, this is not their fault or problem :p

BTW, I'm one of the (many) people who can't get dsl in my area, and have low HSPA reception. Kinda screwed.

Look... I would be more inclined to D3 if they put a local server in SA.

South Africa does not present a major user base to Blizzard, whereas the European and American market does.
So been all about the money that is where they will focus.

I would have had no problem buying D3 if I had to authenticate online and then play with my friends over LAN. However the whole 250-300ms thing leaves a very bitter taste in my mouth. I am hoping to get a beta key to see if the game will be enjoyable with the 250-300ms ping. Thanks to Blizzards decisions I went from definitely-buying, to maybe-buying.

Screw it.

One game I have been looking forward to for years and it will be impossible for me to play it at home legally.

Will have to wait for someone to crack it to play offline I guess.

Both SC2 and WoW's plays great at those latencies. Blizzard's netcode is top class.

Anyways, I honestly dont know why people worry about latency so much. It's only FPS games that requires latency to be super low, but even those issues have been reduced with predictive netcode. 3rd person games plays fine even with latencies as high as 700ms.

Yeah.... remember when the Starcraft 2 servers went down and we couldnt play a game we had legally bought even offline? And what happens if SeaCom goes down?

it has nothing to do with player experience and everything to do with money and DRM. No thanks Blizzard, you burned me with StarCraft II, and I'll never buy another one of your games.

And bought items.

Greed, I bought the item, It's called a game.

SC2 does not have loot, WoW has a proper looting system. If they implement WoWs looting system for Diablo it could work. However it won't be as nice as it would have been on LAN. Remember Diablo looting is a free-for-all. Whoever clicks on the item first gets it.

+1. I have now moved Diablo 3 to the "If it is cracked I will play it" list.

I am now rather waiting on Guild Wars 2.

I thought that in D3 you will only see the loot that drops for you - other players get their own stuff a mob or boss drops and you don't have to share loot(if you don't like that barbarian you don't have to say you just picked up loincloth of merciless visions and can go put it up on the auctionhouse)

This is the first that I've heard of such a concept, but that would make it completely unlike D1, D2 and all expansions.

You thought right, though if you pick it up and then drop it again, anyone can see it.

Do you have a link for that? How will it pre-assign loot to players?

I'm not sure, from some things that have been said, it seems like it won't pre-assign loot as much as give each person their own drop table, so to speak (as if you were playing SP), but from others it seems like they will do a round-robin style where you just can't see what drops for others.

They mostly just say vague stuff like this:

Drops are not different in co-op. The fact that you're killing faster (which you will) in a group means more items in less amount of time, means we don't need to provide other incentives.

Your own drop modifiers will affect your personal drops, such as magic and gold find. But that's the same while playing alone or in a group.
