Do you guys think with the landing of the new Seacom cable that there will be any chance that Blizzard would consider putting up a wow server in SA?

Why would a international access cable affect a locally hosted server ?

Hmm, I think I can go rent a flat next to the Seacom landing station, use a VANS license to lay a few meters of fiber to the station, and start a server for blizz to test :-)

Poor saffers will still pay an arm and a leg for "local" access to the server, but the international portion will be uber cheap.

The cost of bandwith will drop and the cable will be handle more traffic and be faster as at the moment the Sat 3 cable can only handle 10Gigabits but for all the adsl subscribers in SA its already sitting on 50Gigabits witch is 40Gigabits more than it can handle with the new Seacom cable it will be able to handle up to 1280 gigabits

Unless the whole of Africa suddenly buy l33t PCs and start coughing up $15 a month to Blizzard the chances of us getting a local server are remote to say the least. As far as I know Blizzard tend to centralise their servers so all the EU servers are in Paris and all the US ones in California and I would guess they have seperate server farms for China and Korea.
So either they would have to launch a African specific version of WoW or they would have to change their hosting policy to one that favoured a less centralised server configuration.
Somehow I don't think that is going to happen.

LOL blizzard doesnt even give saffers the scroll of resurection or any kind of promotional freebie so what the hell makes u think they would do something like this?

Its not just about plonking a server down... quite a lot more to it... you need proper support infrastructure, you need support staff, you need to keep things like battlegroup assignments in mind... If our server gets added to eg. Cyclone battlegroup, and it ends up syncing all the way to EU servers hosted on first world country Fibre, you can imagine just how crappy the smoothness of the pvp environment would be. Ofc the other side of the coin is... hosting a server in SA would mean no EU ppl would bother rolling characters here in SA, so unless we have a TON of ppl rolling on the server... it will end up looking like these el-cheapo pirate server versions with very very limited ppl on them.

Also the EU servers are positioned at strategic points... places where multiple network providers peer.

Very true its a pity though I know that mostly all of us would love to have a server here but its ten to 1 never going to happen just not worth the money to do it.

About as much chance of of this happening as a man has to become pregnant tbh.
Im not going to lie it would be awesome. But not realistic.
On that note, I wonder how many South American people play wow?

All will just have to reroll regear reEvery thing cos you'll be starting anew so prop buy a SA retail version and and and my head hurts

and for the "privilage" of a local server, they (BLIZZARD) would make ZA players pay double/triple the rest of the 1st(sic!) world rates!!! The Lich King would sooner thaw out!

African version of Wow...does that mean you will get leather sheilds
