Bloemfontein FTTH Thread

Just thought I'd give you guys an update.

While driving over the bridge across the N1, I noticed that they've finally started trenching on both sides of the road. I assume that this is what SADV complexes in LHP (or the majority thereof) require in order to go live. Doubt that some of Frogfoot's network also runs across the N1, but alas, at least good news for those that have been waiting for ages

What I could deduce from a convo I had with a fibre contractor, SADV lost a couple of their townhouse contractors - which is why nothing is happening on their side. I'm still waiting for them to bother to phone me after months... Luckily frogfoot's contractors are more reliable... Waiting for them to start their install at our complex :D

Damn, that's rough and what a tough break for complexes that went with SADV. I'm glad that Frogfoot seem more reliable. Post back as soon as things start taking shape in your complex or as soon as you're online :)

Any one knows if Universitas will get Fiber? I looked at frogfoot and SADV and Universitas is being surrounded by roll-outs with no clear indication if it will happen in future.1541070593682.png

Anything planned for Hospitaalpark? I see Fichardpark is planned but don't think Hospitaalpark is planned, as I can't fnd such an indication on any of the maps.

Frogfoot Langenhoven Park Sector 3 now LIVE!!!
I was connected last week, just waiting on my ISP now.

Awesome stuff @IAMUSER

Be sure to post some pics of the install. I'm always interested to see how its done from the different providers and for future reference for anyone here :)

Awesome, I'm in Sector 3 - they started with the fibre install at my complex today - hopefully it goes quickly!

Not much to see, everything mostly buried underground in PVS piping.

From street box:

Through my yard, underneath the paving:

ONT: (Fibre comes in through the wall next to ONT, there was no need for channeling)

And everything nicely restored:

Heads up to the guys from Nanofibre that did all the hard work, and made sure that the distance came in to under 30m.

Awesome stuff!

Thanks for the pics. Wondered what Frogfoot's street boxes looked like compared to the grey ones of SADV. Hope you get sorted soon with your ISP though. Once you are, post some speed tests too :)

Signed up with CISP (20/20), sent in my cancellation with Telkom, and will cancel Afrihost and RSAweb (for my line) as soon as my fibre goes live :D

After years of waiting, 3 fibre cables in my front yard, and endless problems with a saturated DSL exchange in Langenhoven Park I can finally post this:

Your ePeens are so much bigger than mine - I'm only going to sign up for a tiny 20Mbps :p

The fibre installation at my townhouse complex is progressing nicely. Can't wait :D

That's an impressive download!
Now my real struggle begins... I've got to cancel my DSL. Also I signed up with Telkom as my ISP waaaay back before Gmail was a thing (was it Hotmail then?) I've got to find out if I can somehow keep my Telkom email address.

Don't scoff at 20Mbps, it is more than enough for most households. I however have 3 kids heavy into YouTube and online gaming. I've also got rid of DSTV more than 5 years ago so we stream everything. I had a 20Mbps DSL line and it worked perfectly up to about a year ago when the Exchange started to get saturated at night. The 100Mbps uncapped fibre line works out cheaper than my 500GB capped Telkom line so I though, why not?

Luckily my cats don't watch youtube... yet. I would just like to be able to game online or watch youtube while my fiancée watches Netflix, then I'm happy. 10Mbps was pushing it!
