Bloemfontein FTTH Thread

From the areas you've specified, only Gardeniapark has been earmarked for future fibre by Frogfoot. The other areas, no such luck.

Area that don't have such a luck future fibre is it because of Network coverage ?????

Possibly yes, but its not a definite. Could also be that those areas aren't affluent / too populated for them to consider rollout. Could be any number of factors, I'm just guestumating.

thanks for the prompt response, the reason am asking is that am also doing fibre installation for MTN and Vodacom, we have done installation in Welkom, North west and various area in Gauteng very successful.

we want to grow our footprint in bloem too, I had opportunity to do only one installation in Fichardt Park and want to see if I cant assist in other areas as well. so if you can advise easiest way how to go about to get an expression of interest in those areas, then I can get engineer to check fibre feasibility .

looking forward to your response...thanks

In Navalview and Fiber seems to be creeping nearer at a snail's pace. SA Digital Villages has asked who wants fiber in the area, so hopefully that is meaning full in some manner or other.

Anybody else on Frogfoot not getting a connection to their ISP? Went down at around 8pm :(

Saw some trenching on the side of the road by my house today, unfortunately when I leave for work and come home whoever does the work isn't on site.

Anyone with any inside information as to who is putting lines in Bayswater?

Have a look for signs on the pavements and road islands, they usually put little boards up, advertising who they are. Should give an indication of who they are.

Looks like it can be SADV (as per their coverage map) as Frogfoot hasn't listed Bayswater as one of their roll out zones.

There's bugger all on the pavements in the area from what I saw going to work this morning, the only thing giving it away is the cable lying in the trench and the machine for trenching parked on the pavement. I did take photos last night when I had a walk around and I see now on the cable that's been laid there's part of a website printed on but some of the address has been scuffed off. I'll investigate further after work.

I went through all the coverage maps last night and my street isn't covered in any of them but the SADV map does come closest to where I am

DFA (Dark Fibre Africa) laid fibre in LHP for SADV last year, so if you see any indication of DFA, they would be the best guess :)

Looks like all complexes in LHP have to be live by end of this week/month (31MAR) otherwise a lot of SADV employees will not have a job anymore...
I have already cancelled my Telkom and DSL line effective 1APR so now I can only wait and see if the info I got is accurate.

SADV's activity really has slowed down the past 4 months. Nothing has happened in Universitas-Ridge yet. Distribution boxes are there, infrastructure is in place, but no floating of fibre has happened whatsoever. Here's hoping they can actually make good on their promise for those that they've already covered with their infrastructure. For me, I'm using Openserve fibre and have been quite happy with it since last year September.

Stopped at a chappy in Nantes Road, and he says they are putting fiber in for Frogfoot, and not for SADV.

I doubt that. Still waiting for SADV to get back to me since June 2018, so that they can do a site survey...meanwhile frogfoot has already done an install in our complex and I've been live for 3,5 months. SADV was absolutely useless.

Ok, first, SADV and Frogfoot has an "gentlemans" agreement, if fiber in your complex was installed by Frogfoot then SADV won't install/trench in the same complex and visa versa. Secondly all complexes where SADV completed installation/trenching and waiting to go live will be doing so by 31MAR.

Frogfoot only installed in our complex because I asked them to, as SADV couldn't even bother doing a site survey (waited 3 months) - something FF literally did the following day after contacting them. And It's not like I didn't try to get SADV to do their job...phoned, FB'ed, whatsapped...contacted their people in DBN responsible for doing townhouses even.

Interesting as their coverage doesn't show Bayswater as being covered. Guess its been a while since that map has been updated and glad that they're expanding to the majority of the suburbs in Bloem. Makes it easier to make a decision in the future if you need to relocate, because if I do, I'll only go where there is fibre

Talking of SADV, they where putting fiber in at a hectic pace in Univeritas, and now seem to have evaporated. Anyone know what happened, or they just ran out of steam.

What is to choose between SADV and Frogfoot, if anything, should I be given a choice.

So on my way home saw some guys in a Quantum with what looked like Eatel? On the side doing inspections of the work that's happening. Other writing on the van said that they are FTTH installers, so it must be their area, guys are motoring along though and seem to be joining up in Wilcocks Road on the one side and Gladstone on the other.

Website on the cables is vhfibre.co.za however, seems like they also have a finger in this pie.

Vhfibre.co.za are in all likelyhood the suppliers of the "cable" Eatel, are probably the contractor, or sub contractor. The motored along in Universtas, as well till they had most of it covered, the they disappeared. Maybe, something, somewhere else, got priority. Tho I would think, that the sooner they got, Universitas finished, the sooner they would start making money off of it.
