Bloemfontein FTTH Thread

Good day to everyone. I am looking to get a fibre package in Fichardt Park which appears to be on the Frogfoot network. I would appreciate feedback from other Bloemfonteiners and their experience with the ISPs available.

Looking at this rhread and others, it seems Cool Ideas has good feedback for the most part, but is anyone with the following ISPs and how has your experience been?

1 Vox
2 Home-Connect
3 Vodacom

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated

Can't say anything about Vox as a fibre provider besides that the did a price increase after quoting me. I've been happy with them and ADSL but that did put me off. I since did a pre-sign up with Home Connect once Bayswater is live.

I replied in the other thread you made under Fibre ISP discussions.

Progress!

Just got an email this afternoon via Frogfoot that FH Civils are sending a contractor Friday 26 July. I'm guessing this is going to be the actual installation so I'm quite excited about this.

They're going to have to trench quite far for me, so I'm hoping it can be done in a day still.

One step forward, two steps back?

Decided to take the plunge and cancel with Telkom last week. Got confirmation sms on Monday that cancellation has been processed and is successful.

Then yesterday, email from Frogfoot saying the installation has been cancelled and that a new appointment will be made. Contractor says it's because the area won't be live yet and they've had issues installing when the area isn't live. A new date will be booked once my area is live. Frogfoot forecast build completion date still sitting on 31 July on their website....

Damn man, that is truly unfortunate and just plain bad luck. Do you have any backup solution that you can use once your ADSL is cancelled before your area is live?

I'm hopeful that it isn't a very long delay since my Telkom line will be active until mid August, but otherwise I'll make a plan with LTE somehow. I have means at least. I did phone the contractor and explained my situation and he said they'd book me first as soon as they have the go ahead, to try and accommodate me.

I got myself a RAIN LTE sim card with the R250 uncapped deal after cancelling ADSL and waiting for the Fibre install - worked out quite well. Still using the SIM in my dual SIM phone now :)

Same here, used mine in my B315 router. Did the job quite well and was quite satisfied.

Hi guys

So this is my story.
In August 2018 SADV started advertising fiber in my complex in LHP with a "Go live" date 2 months later. I cancelled my iClix wireless and signed up with Rocketnet. Two months (and a few SADV fights) later I re activated my iClix as there were quality issues with the SADV backbone. Long story short, the same thing happened another two times.

I ended up canceling Rocketnet and moved it over to Vox on a free install deal.
Now eventually a year later my fiber and ONT has been installed and now the wait continues. Apparently it takes Vox at least three days to link the ONT to my account.

Tomorrow my iClix is getting cancelled for the 4th time. I just hope Vox gets their admin together or I'll have to re-activate iClix again.

Good grief manie!

Seems like SADV really gave you guys in LHP the run around to say the least. Here's hoping that Vox can pull up their sox and get you connected

Just a heads up, if you aren't happy with Vox, they will charge you pro-rata for - I think upto 12 months - for that "free install" so I really hope that everything works for you.

On my side, Bayswater is supposed to go live today still according to the Frogfoot site, contractor also said they'd be able to give more feedback today.

So, I've got good news, fibre was live as of yesterday apparently. Installation is happening as we speak. Luckily Frogfoot covers the first 30m of work, because otherwise I'd be getting seriously hurt with installation costs living in a pan-handle erf. They've decided not to dig up all my paving otherwise they'd have to come back tomorrow, but did manage to hit the water main, all part of the job, so now I guess I'll just be waiting on my ISP to give me access!

Awesome stuff, so glad for you. One gets this warm and fuzzy feeling when they install your fibre. Post some speedtests once you're up and running ;)

I was really hoping to be able to do that tonight! They completed the install, had to "provision" it, then had to do a manual requested and from their side they were happy. So I phoned my ISP got my username and password and tried to set everything up on my old router that I used for wireless. Well it refused to work, so I called up Home-Connect and after verifying all the settings are correct, the tech support asked me to plug in directly the ONT and set up a connection. Got error 651? repeatedly after verifying all details after which she said she's going to ask Frogfoot if they can see my PC on their side because everything should work.

So after some back and fort, connected directly to the ONT after confirming serial no's and all sorts of details, I'm online! Pretty happy with my speedtest!
