Bloemfontein FTTH Thread

I was really hoping to be able to do that tonight! They completed the install, had to "provision" it, then had to do a manual requested and from their side they were happy. So I phoned my ISP got my username and password and tried to set everything up on my old router that I used for wireless. Well it refused to work, so I called up Home-Connect and after verifying all the settings are correct, the tech support asked me to plug in directly the ONT and set up a connection. Got error 651? repeatedly after verifying all details after which she said she's going to ask Frogfoot if they can see my PC on their side because everything should work.

Would you mind posting pics of the install? Would like to see how they got from the street to your house? And then would also like to see the equipment they gave you in the house. I'm also in Bayswater and I'm contemplating laying my own pipe under the paving as I don't want a crappy job from the contractor.

I'll do that for you tonight. They didn't have any polyfilla so couldn't neaten up the hole that they drilled in the wall for the fibre cable to go through, they are supposed to come some time today to sort that out. Depending on how much paving they'd need to rip up, I'd trust them with it. I just didn't see the worth in them spending 2 days doing 54m of paving by me so they ran a conduit along the wall above where the gate intercom and motor power cables run.

So do you have any say in what you want for the installation or do they simply go with the cheapest easiest way? I want them to go 5m under my lawn, then make a 90deg turn and go 20m under paving (carefully missing 3 intersection with irrigation pipes) up to my garage, where I want the ONT mounted.

I had the say, thing is I didn't want to deal with the hassle of babysitting them for 2 days while they do the work. I can't guarantee that they'll miss your irrigation pipes though. They took out my water main but fixed it properly no questions asked, they did manage to miss one of my irrigation pipes at least.

Ok so they came to sort out the hole in the wall and attached the conduit properly where it goes through. I've tried to cover all the angles and took a pic of the equipment on the wall where the router plugs into. I only noticed now that the conduit runs above a sprinkler head, but that doesn't bother me too much. Also where they dug in my garden it hasn't been tidied up 100% but again, I'm planning some grass for spring so not an issue to me. All the paving was put back perfectly where they went under the gate rail though.

Thanks for the photos.

So therr are 2 boxes. White one and a black one. Do both require power? Is the black one a router and do you have login access to it?

Just the black one needs power, that's the ONT, I'm not actually sure what the what box is. Since my router only came yesterday, I could plug directly into the ONT from my PC to get access to the fibre over the weekend.

Yeah, so this does not seem correct...very frustrating!
Anyone else experiencing issues on SADV's fibre in LHP?
Cool Ideas's support is once again non-existent...
Last ticket I logged they took a day and a half to respond...really considering changing ISPs...

Post your issue and ticket number in the CISP thread here on the forum. PBCool sorts things out really quickly :)

Good day all fibre citizens in the Bloemfontein area. I am happy to report that my fibre is live! Use to be on LTE and man what an improvement.
