Oh good, so I'm not the only one. But this doesn't solve my problem of knowing how real the terrorist threat actually is :/

It's not very real. There's a chance. There's always been a chance you could be on an aircraft that gets hijacked or blown up. Is there more of a chance today, than say 30 years ago? Probably not. It's definitely not a new or different threat. Other than the orchestrated media circus no evidence has been presented to suggest things have become more dangerous or terrorism has escalated. Terrorism did not suddenly appear or become different as claimed after the attack in the US in 2001. The only thing that changed was that some foreigners carried out a terrorist act in the US where previously terrorist acts had been carried out by US citizens.
Experts have analysed the 2001 attack and the logical conclusion is that the perpetrators were unsophisticated, relatively poor pilots, that the collapse of the World Trade Center towers was an unexpected consequence, and in all likelihood the act was that of a lone group not affiliated to any major organisation.
There can be absolutely no doubt that the current hysteria has been carefully manufactured by the security services. How convenient that the police can run around with guns and shoot electricians. What fun that armed goons are present on every US flight ready to shoot an agitated passenger in the back. The FBI gets their greatest wish, to spy on everyone just like the good old days with uncle Edgar.

I had to respond to this ...... The terror threat is as real as you can get. It seem you have forgotten the horrors of 9-11 and 7-7 ... probably because you feel safer here in the sun. Ask yourself the following:
While there are still gaps in security which would enable them to carry out attacks, we all have to be vigilant. Saying this is just one big conspiracy is not going to help you or your relatives when the time comes.
The reason this didn't happen before, is 1 - because of security/intelligence and 2 -the fact that not many groups wanted to die for their cause.
- Is the organisation that was behind 9-11 still in place?
- Are the terrorists willing to die for their cause?
- Is information available to these people showing them how to build bombs?
- Are these people receiving money to enable them to carry out their aims?
- Are these people receiving instructions/support/advice from organisations abroad?

Bush etal are either directly behind all attacks (the grand conspiracy) - or are primary instruments in creating the conditions for attacks in the first place. They just love the oil price, the loss of liberty and their rapidly increasing stock portfolios in arms, energy and 'security'.
Bin Laden = the grand disappearing man. Houdini had no clue.

Depends - do you want to ignore the London bombings (56 dead), 9/11 (2,752 dead), the Madrid Train attacks (191 dead), the nightclub bombing in Bali (202 dead), etc? I'm convinced there is a threat.
