Blonde needs help with buying a tablet/e-reader ....

My Opinion here is, iPad not worth the money. e-Reader also not worth the money for what it does. I would look for a decent android Tablet, maybe something like a Nexus 7 or 10 (great value for money on the N7 16gb model & 3G + Wifi). If the tablet is wifi only, connect the 3G to a router / or your laptop and hotspot / share the connection. Or if you have 3G on your phone with a reasonable data limit, Hotspot the phone for internet connectivity.
 
Am i the only one here who realizes a pic is required?

Walk into Incredible Connection/Dion Wired and play with these tablets/e ink readers for yourself.
Try all of them until you are in a better position to to narrow down your selection .A tablet should solve a need you have.To just want a tablet for the sake of wanting a tablet when you already have a laptop it is a bit senseless.

And thats your opinion to.... based on? The fact that you know me personally? and / or you know what tablets I may / may not have or had? I wonder how educated your opinion on me is ... And the advice I gave is as I have stated my opinion only, not hard core that be it.... get over yourself and help the lady.
 
I am an Android fan but lately i've been lusting for some iPad action.
 
Look the iPad has a brilliant screen, plus the 4th Gen with its new processor is damn nice. But at a Cost. The Nexus 10 has a bloody good screen too (higher res than the iPad)! If the OP has an iPhone, then swing iPad by all means. Also the new Kindle is practically a full tablet any way. May as well buy a Tablet. If the OP just wants to read eBooks and thats it... get a cheap e-reader.

BTW... I read stuff quite easily on my Nexus 4 which is smaller than a Galaxy Note or Tablet. TBH my son plays with my Tab 10.1, I don't even touch it anymore. The wife loves her iPad 3, but only uses it because her family have them and they face time (talk - whatever it is) a lot...

Hi-Fi Corp has them on special for R199 per month incl 1GB data. Now that's for free right??
I just dont know whether to take the Tab 2 10.1" or the 8.9".
I see the 10" tab 2 has no external memory where the others have an sd card ?? Why ?

Bigger screen is always better.
That also depends on the size of your eyes. Please post a pic of yourself so that we can advise further.

That website is for the original Galaxy Tabs (old models), not the Tab 2's.

The Tab 2's have SD card slots and are 10.1" and 7", and the first Tabs are 10.1 and 8.9", at least according to www.gsmarena.com, which I trust more. So you'd probably make sure of what the special is on before deciding, there's a big difference between a 2-year old Tab and a 9-month old Tab 2.
 
I would usually agree with bigger is better, but I find that my Galaxy Tab 10.1 can get quite heavy when I'm reading in bed and sometimes I think I would have preferred a smaller lighter tablet.
I think that is why I prefer my Kindle for reading.

Pnp hyper will have the Kobo touch for R795 again tomorrow
 
Weight has never been an issue for me with my iPad and I think it's heavier than the Tab 10.1

Wow - R795 for the Kobo Reader - that R200 discount! Thats also a good deal but I was warned in this forum that most people toss their e-readers nto a drawer after novelty has worn off....

Hi Fi Corp actually called me to say they have no stock of either tablets advertised(!!) but will be supplying 7 of us with Galaxy 2 P500's - now the deal is even sweeter at R199 per month x 24 ! Its 3G and can make calls(if u really want to??) 10" Screen etc.
My subject is now closed as I get my first tablet tomorrow.
You guys are all ORSM !

Look. I love reading, but found most books to be too expensive. I have a very limited budget and most of it goes on socialising these days, so unfortunately books had become a luxury. For Xmas I got myself an MSI Windpad 7" and I've finished 3 books since then. The tablet is so easy to carry around and whenever I have some time to spare I'll pull it out and start reading. The big bonus is that I can use the Kobo app and buy books for much cheaper prices.

I got "Losing my virginity" by Richard Branson for R80. It was R160 on Takealot. I got "Perks of being a wallflower" for R30. It's about R120 on Takealot as well. I also got "Fail Up" for about R40 or R50, and the paperback is about R150 online. I am busy reading "Drive" which I picked up for R50, and saw for about R100 at Exclusive Books, and for about R150 online.

The long and the short of it is, if you love reading, definitely think about getting either a tablet or e-reader. It works out as a huge saving in the long run. I would recommend a tablet over the e-reader since you can get a decent tablet for about R1500, and it has all the added functionality. I chose a tablet over an e-reader because I also read comic books, which are awesome on the tablet.

Absolutely not true! Everyone I know with an e-reader uses it regularly. Only those who were not readers by nature will ditch them, usually because they were given one as a gift by someone unaware the recipient was not a reader.
