Hi there.

I was adviced that this community may be able to help me. I am not tech savy at all, quite the opposite and i need some help or advice!

Last year fiber was installed in my area And vodacom is the service provider. I am paying for the top internet package (to my knowledge). I am paying for 100 mbps (uncappd) and to my understanding this would mean i need a upload and download speed of 100. However, when I run a speed test (on speedtest.net as adviced by vodacom) i get below 20 upload and download and sometimes below 10. Locally my latency results are over 100 and for international speeds my latency is in the 500 zone.

My job is dependent on my internet speeds as i am doing online teaching in China. When i do classes the IT tech’s in china say my internet speeds are not apt to hold an international class.

My question is what must i do? I live in Morninghill, bedfordview.
- must i change service providers and look for another provider that can provide me with better coverage? (If possible)
- must i get a new laptop?
- is there a better plan to move to on vodacom that could meet my requirements?

I have also sat on the phone to vodacom for over a month now everyday. They have just lied, deflected this issue or ignored me. They have done nothing to help me at all.

I am very distressed with regards to this issue and seek any guidance!

I look forward to your suggestions.

Kind regards

I think there is a rule somewhere stating you must add a pic first before you get assistance. That would determine the standard of assistance around here. I might be mistaken though, Just to be safe do it anyway.

When you do your speedtest are you doing it to an overseas sever or local?

And guys wonder why there are so few women on forums ...

You mentioned a laptop, as a very first step I would eliminate internal WiFi as a cause, disable/disconnect from the WiFi and do the speedtests again, while plugged in directly to the router with a Network Cable.

If the results improve over wired, you can give info such as the size of the area you are trying to connect with wireless, location (eg. near a kitchen) and model numbers of the equipment (both laptop and router/AP), so that we can guide you with a proper setup/configuration.

If the results remain poor, then at least you know you have eliminated the simplest cause and you can proceed to the next step.

Because of international connectivity construction the best connectivity to China from Johannesburg South Africa is going to be between 450 and 560 ms. According to Global Ping Statistics

Hangzhou low:499 high: 558
Shanghai low:453 high: 560
Shenzhen low: 533 high: 597
Zhangjiakou low:554 high: 573

Move somewhere international or China.

:crylaugh: I like this rule.

Was meant as a joke. You must really be fun to be around.

Just because I don't agree with your sans comic joke, it means I am not fun to be around?

You don't know her or me from a bar of soap, so how do you know if she will be offended to asked to post a picture for getting help? You sounds like a desperate teenager. Some people have different moral values to you, ever though of that?

I'll leave you at that. You can proceed with your day all sour if that's how you want it.

Wtf does this have to do with moral values ? Etter......

Not sour at all, but your retort speaks volumes. Rather try and help the lady, how about that?

So is it normal to ask for pictures before giving assistance? Why must there be an exchange of something because she is female before he can help her?

Imagine his reaction when looking at the below. Will probably blow an artery.

Are you doing the speed tests over wifi or over cable?
Are the classes you give, over video call?

Hi there.

Thank you for your reply.

I am doing the speedtest via this site and speedtest.net. I have done the speed test locally and internationally. Locally it is around 20/30 upload and download. And internationally the speed test results are even worse around an average of 450 ping and 10 download and 1.93 uplaod.

Are you doing it over wifi or is your laptop physically connected to the router?

I am doing the tests over wifi not cable. I know that my speeds will be better via cable but its not possible for me to sit by the router and be connected by cable. The router is installed in the passage abit awkward to host a class
