Blood Pressure...

How many of you have had your thyroid function checked? Turns out both hypo and hyperthyroidism affect the heart, including hypertension. Had full bloods done recently (including testosterone, B12, D, etc) because I’ve been feeling like crap for a while, and have arrhythmia issues, and my thyroid was quite low, so having a chat with my GP later to discuss the way forward.
Had the full suite of tests the other day

Tsh normal (along with everything else including lipid profile which is very gratifying)

In April I was highly overactive / hyperthyroid (TSH 0.03), then in august I was off the scales underactive / hypothyroid (TSH 67).
They then tested for antobodies and it seems to confirm I have thyroiditis , had an ultrasound and waiting for the results next week (they should be able to tell which specific thyroiditis I have)

I am on 25mg Levothyroxine / T4 as a starting dose , after 6 weeks I do blood tests and they adjust up , repeat every 6 weeks/25mg

My cholesterol has shot up over the last year from always being perfect , I noticed that NHS recognise this as a complication of hypothyroid: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/underactive-thyroid-hypothyroidism/complications/

Snap, after my GP visit this week I’m now also on Levothyroxine 25. Let’s so how we get on. Only been on it for 2 days now and somehow my BP has already stabilised, sitting at around 125/80, whereas previously it was 135/85. Probably placebo this early on, but I’ll take it!

Did you initially only have TSH done for your thyroid or include T3 and T4 ?

Im not on any BP meds. Had a sinus infection so went to the doc on Saturday. Had a reading of 138/85 . Doc said this is "good" . I thought my reading should be lower for a 35 year old. Anyway going for a full checkup in Dec when im feeling 100% healthy.

BP is a tricky one. World seems to go by the US “standard” of 120/80. Becomes problematic if you then find yourself in Europe where it’s 130/90. And then someone could have something like 135/95 or 115/75 and still be completely healthy. And it changes again once you start aging, too.

Best is to keep an eye on it once your infection has cleared up.

My BP has also lowered slightly , also wondered if its placebo lol
NHS doesnt mention on their site, but there are studies linking hypothyroid to affecting one of the blood tests for diabetes (A1C) which showed as elevated/pre diabetes for me suddenly.
Not blaming everything on thyroid but its eye opening how everything is linked.

Yeah was actually really surprised at how much it influences, especially with regards to the heart.

So I've been started on Bilocor today by the doctor. There are other chronic meds that I will need to start on, but need to get the high blood pressure under control

i thought i best stick my nose in here.
its been a while and a lot has happened

i live to eat a cream donut another day !
You have two choices:
1) Live your dream life, but for a shorter period
2) Sacrifice your dream life and live longer.

That's not always the case though. You get very healthy, fit people who one day suddenly discovers they have cancer or something and dies in a couple of months at the age of 40. On the other hand you sometimes get 60-year olds who have been smoking and drinking their whole lives with zero exercise and just seem to never get ill.

I have to do a medical every year and my blood pressure was high once. Now whenever I go I get "white coat syndrome" everytime because I keep thinking about it and worry. Tbh not sure what it would normally be. Should also get a home kit me thinks.
