Blood Pressure...

114/73 - average of last week.

Still on meds but best reading ever.

I would like to think all this helped or maybe it is too early to say ? Following a decent active lifestyle for almost a month+, at least compared to last year. Upped the ante in last 12-13 days in terms of regular exercise of at least 45 minutes a day, with one rest day per week. Significantly reduced intake of fizzy drinks - only one in last 15 days when it used to be 2-3 per week.
123/77 - a bit higher than last time but am content. Still on meds of course - co zomevek

Has anyone really went off BP meds just by dropping weight (close to their BMI) & based on diet? I really wonder about this at times.

Can I ask what type of work that you do that causes it to spike so much or are there other environmental factors also at play ? I noticed my stress levels according to watch are higher during working week compared to weekend, but now I think I should also check my blood pressure
Me just IT stuff.

Since I got myself the Omron M4 from Dischem, I started measuring far more often that I ever did. The app on the phone recommends 2 readings (10 minutes apart) in the morning and again 2 in the evening. Now I never did this before, I also know this is not required really. BUT, I like stats. Still trying to get Omron to auto feed this into Garmin Connect for me, they promised they will.

Anyways, the stats just in the regular already starts to look interesting, to the point, it might be worth consider pairing this thing to a computer and use the one open source app from github to read the whole device into the app with all kinds of interesting graphs. I think this will become really interesting over a longer time period. Sadly, I only got the device in January after the holidays. Discovery paid for it out of the wellness fund, so cost nothing. Was a no brainer to get a little bit of an upgrade over the really old school one I have.

I went for a routine checkup yesterday. The doctor took my blood pressure, and, concerned by the reading, called in some nurses who took it multiple times. My average was a shocking 210/140, with a peak of 228/140. They understandably wouldn't let me leave until it came down a bit. Needless to say, I'm on medication now until Friday, when I return for further tests.

I'm monitoring my blood pressure at home every few hours, and while it's still quite high in the low 190s, at least it's better than yesterday's readings. The strangest thing is, I felt perfectly fine throughout the ordeal.
Christ that's a high reading! If I was the doctor I would have booked a bed for you at the nearest hospital!

When my doctor found I had high blood pressure (during my 6 month checkup) he almost lost his breath due to shock, and even then my reading was only 176/110, still high but nothing like yours.

Today I'm averaging around 135/80, with medication. Doctor says anything below 140/90 is decent enough and considered under control, even though the new international standard is apparently something like 120/70.

Like others have mentioned, during the week it's at its highest, working in I.T one would probably always have elevated blood pressure :crying: , then over weekends it drops into the low 120/70's. sometimes even into the lower 110's.

Good luck, and hopefully the doc can put you on the correct medication to get those numbers down. I was told to loose about 30kg of weight in order to maybe have a chance of ever going off medication, trying my best to achieve that in the long run.

Weight gain is the main culprit if I understand correctly. I am aiming for 20kg loss this year so let us see if there is any difference if I achieve that.

Stress adds a tiny bit depending on how you are.

Yup, especially in IT and Cybersecurity, where there's a massive skill shortage. Long hours, demanding clients, big penalties – then the added stress of family, expenses, and concerns over safety. It all adds up!

Thanks, Werny. The doctor and nurses were just as shocked. I took a reading a few moments ago, and it does seem to be dropping, but it's still fairly high at 170/92. I could definitely do with losing a few kilograms.

Legal field. Coupled with the added threat of looming retrenchment because working oneself to the point that one's blood pressure goes through the roof is just not good enough.

All I can add here is work is killing us slowly. Ended up in hospital twice last year with insane high bloodpressure. All work related.
Yip. unrealistic deadlines , working with incompetent clowns and a bad work life balance is my current recipe for disaster .

Best bp reading since going back to work this year. Not 100% sure why, but this is after 2 readings 10min apart and refitted the band on the arm.

well done. What was the worst before this ? And you still on BP meds ?

When I went on meds the first time a few years ago, 151/94 average.

This year highest was 136/85 which I know is not very high but I usually average around 130/85.

On meds yes, but it's super mild, no beta blockers or anything. Just pearinda plus.

cool, I am still on co zomovek 80. I am not sure if one can completely get off BP meds once you have it but I plan to reduce weight by another 17kg and with diet adjustment, I am trying to put it to test for myself.

I'm going back today for my 4th round of tests. The current medication has worked well. From the initial over 200/140 to an average of 145/90. So I will likely hear today if I need a prescription. I stopped smoking on Thursday last week and I am working on losing some weight.

200/140 seems insane. Hope it works out. In my case, it has been suggested that 10kg reduction in weight is likely to drop BP by 20mm. Let us see.

I went back for tests yesterday, and the doctor is pleased. The medication seems to be working well. I have now received my chronic prescription and will be taking the tablets for the foreseeable future. My blood pressure now averages between 135/80 to 145/90, which is certainly far better than the critical levels of over 200. I will return next week for some blood work. I have completely stopped smoking since last week and have already started eating a bit healthier.

Can highly recommend meditation - but not just a once in a while, deliberate and regular meditation sessions.

I read something a while ago that resonated with me (maybe it will with you too) - 10 minutes of your day equates to roughly 0.694% of a day - it's a tiny tiny percentage - so set yourself a target of doing just 10min of meditation a day, that tiny percentage, of doing it consistently, will make the world of difference.

There are lots of free apps out there - the one I enjoy the most is Insight Timer - you can tailor what you're looking for, and they have lots of courses on there, which you follow each day, which helps with consistency.

Getting low readings these days. 111/74 is latest today. Still on meds of course. Maybe 4.3 kg weight reduction helped a bit ?

I have had exactly the oposite. I see my stress levels rise during the holidays and go back to normal when at work(work from home).
Told my wife this and she took it a bit personal since she is home on weekends and holidays but at the office during the week so its a bit more than a coincidence

Why not tell her to be outside the house for few weekends? So that you can definitely rule her out ? Just for research. Tell her if she loves you, she would do it. Play a reverse uno card for once.
