Blood Pressure...

I

I don’t really want watch it :(

I first heard about the story with a video on Facebook (probably the same video) and it hit me. I’ve got 3 young daughters and the video had be welling up big time
i was sent the full video yesterday evening.
it begins within the ICU and ends inside the operating theatre - without doubt one of the saddest things i have seen in my life.
given the very different and raw content i've abandoned the project and going to hand over to a professional production company.

It is here in the UK.
interestingly, even as a registered organ donor in south africa, consent still has to be given from family to harvest organs.
i had a hour long conversation with a director at the foundation yesterday, and broached this particular issue.

in most cases people may be registered as an organ donor.
knowing this i took things a step forward in getting my attorney to draw up an affidavit witnessed by two friends and certified under oath at SAPS. i did this simply because i have no more relatives in this country.
despite even going to that extent, my wishes as set out under oath will remain disregarded in favour of any potential decision by relatives.

if no contact can be made in time, my organs get to be incinerated with the rest of my body !!

CPR should also be taught compulsory every year, this as well as compulsory organ donation unless chosen "no" for other reasons.

Had another groot skrik couple of weeks ago.

This time it was artifical sugar. Seems my kidneys doesn't like that sort of ****.

I just went cold turkey with anything sugar, and started to drink more water. Meaning no more cocolate, tea, coffee, hot chocolate etc. Sad Panda.

However, the past few days I've been getting increasingly tired, not sure why.

Decided to take my blood pressure, and it's 110/70. And I'm taking BP meds. Now I know why, my BP drops and then I'm doing the House Hufflepuff.

Will be monitoring this closely, don't want any extra kak.

But glad to see that the increased water consumption is having some benefits after all.

And now I'll definitely be scrutinizing lists of ingredients before pyrchasing anything.

So if you'll see Ook standing in the aisles and squinting at the list of ingredients on packages, then you'll know why.

Reducing sugar intake can lead to water weight loss, which affects electrolyte balance and may cause fatigue. Consider increasing your electrolyte intake.

we're getting old, my friend
just like an aging wife, our organs need higher levels of maintenance !!

At a crossroads.

Been on statins, aspirin and BP medication for 6 years. Also on anti platelets (twice after the stents) as well as a beta-blocker for around 3 years. On top of that, had to suffer through a PPI until I stopped it 3.5 years later, after which my gut symptoms, diagnosed as IBS - the medical term for “there’s something wrong with your gut, but we can’t be arsed figuring out what” - almost magically disappeared.

Each medication has its purpose. But each also has its own side effects. No, not the regular stuff they tell you about on the label, but additional things like kidney failure, mineral leeching, etc. Now, combine them all, at once, every day, and needless to say my “second” life has felt like complete ****. I honestly felt “healthier” before my heart attacks!

My cardiologist constantly reassures me that my heart is in good nick, and handled the four widoemakers like a boss, with no major damage, etc, and that I just need to get out there and enjoy my life. I simply CAN’T because I constantly feel like a worn out husk of who I used to be. I’m almost 100% convinced it’s all the **** I’ve had to take for 6 years, because it’s night and day how I felt before I started taking any of them.

So, I now have a very difficult choice to make: keep taking the drugs, and live (possibly) a little bit longer - but miserably. Or, stop taking them, possibly expire a little bit sooner - but at least get to feel ALIVE again while I’m doing it.

If I were in your shoes, I would gradually reduce my intake of those medications. I would start with the statin. As for your diet, I recall that you don't consume much junk food, right?

Sugar is still too high for my liking, but we’ve generally steered away from processed and fried foods for a very long time now.

I’ve been off the aspirin for a month already - not to stop it permanently (at the time) but because it’s once again caused erosive gastritis and erosive duodenitis.

I’ve been on half a Candesartan (BP) for a while now, and my SYS readings are pretty stable. I have odd days where it goes over 125 (highest it’s been over the last month is 128), but I hover somewhere between the upper 110’s and lower 120’s. DIA is still a bit concerning, but the medication won’t affect it any more because isolated diastolic hypertension is purely lifestyle. I expect it to drop once I stop vaping, and feel better enough to start exercising again.

As of this morning, I’ll be on half a statin.

I’m not on major amounts of these meds, either - it’s just the fact that I’ve taken them all for so long now, and I’m tired of it. The Mrs fully supports my decision, and has hated me taking so much medication.

Reduce sugar and refined carbohydrates is the way to go. Spikes in blood glucose levels is something you want to avoid. Personally, I've experienced better energy and mental clarity since adopting a low-carb diet.

if you post what you ate yesterday then we can have a look and see whats what.. if yesterday was just a normal feeding day

WTF

So I had a look at the medication pamphlets included with my medication.

Cholesterol meds say it is possible that your liver may be damaged
BP meds say it is possible to damage your kidneys

Wharrafak. And the doctors don't tell you.

So begins the fight to get off these medicines (or to reduce them).

erm... even the innocuous sounding paracetamol

Side effects from paracetamol are rare but can include:
  • an allergic reaction – this can cause a rash and swelling.
  • flushing.
  • low blood pressure.
  • a fast heartbeat.
  • blood disorders.
  • liver and kidney damage, if you take too much (overdose) – this can be fatal in severe cases.

My eGFR (kidney function) for the past 6 years has been around 60. That’s Stage 2 kidney failure. My doctors’ response when my blood work comes in? “Normal for patient”. They’re clearly aware that my medication is killing my kidneys, but don’t seem to care.

Normal is anywhere between 90 and 120. I have the kidney function of someone 20 years older.

As for side effects, yeah, there’s so much that just isn’t on the labels.
