Blood Pressure...

apologies if I've missed the previous pages and if you've mentioned the below:
has your physician given you a coronary angiogram or even an echocardiogram by any chance?
CT Scan is probably a better option. It is an imaging exam to view the heart and blood vessels. It is an exam that carries few risks and is less invasive.

you need to go to a specialist physician and not your run of the mill GP, they can then just authorize preferably a echocardiogram which is done at rest and then a stress test (after a treadmill power walk) if they're not 100% happy then he will send you for a CT coronary angiogram. This will indicate the level % of blockage to see whether or not your need a stent.

Lol

No.
I'm just fat, old and unfit.

No chest pains, no other symptoms, why would I need a stent?

fat, old and unfit with very high blood pressure

yeah you sound healthy as a fiddle!

Medical aid will pay for it (if you're on it) if not... well the physician would probably be R1,500 maybe and the echocardiogram would likely be another R2,000 I can't see it being more than that. The CT scan if needed would be R25,000 at a guess, the stent? ummm a lot but it is a quick procedure so can guess around R50,000 at a wild guess.

Angiogram is still the gold standard when it comes to checking for atherosclerosis.

My point is that just because you don't have any symptoms does not mean you don't have blocked arteries.

You can have a CT Scan to find out if you have or have not.

I didn’t have any symptoms I could remember, either. And then I just randomly had 4 MIs, so yeah.

Indeed, the medical field often lags behind in adopting new practices.

Newer imaging techniques like coronary CT angiography are becoming more accurate and accessible, making them a viable alternative in many cases.

Difference is, if you have an angiogram, and they find blockages, they can do something about it straight away. CT doesn’t give you that option.

Consensus is that wrist BP monitors aren’t nearly as accurate as arm cuffs, so interested to see your results.
Not loving the wrist band.

It's overreading badly compared to their own cuff and my Omron.

Band saying 170/96 for the last hour
Most recent Aktiia cuff reading 154/89 at 9:45
Most recent Omron reading 142/86 at 9:58

You guys realize these numbers are inaccurate when you're on the forum and keep getting blasted by DSTV articles weekly from Staff Writers here on MyBB?

It gets my blood boiling every time

I'm immune to that one :D

I go to my GP every 6 months for prescription of BP meds and don't recall of him suggesting anything really. I am fat (about 15kg based on BMI) although I wouldn't call myself unfit but that is highly subjective* in any case.

I am sure there are objective tests but I won't pay for them
