Blood Pressure...

Finally saw a cardiologist yesterday (only took like 3 years, and multiple trips to the A&E to get a referral). Long story short: heart is in good shape, no major damage after the MIs. Left ventricle is working properly. Taken off Bisoprolol permanently because 50bpm is NOT good. Been referred for an angiogram and possible further stenting if they find areas of concern.

Was happy to have one less pill to take! But then he put me on Isodur until the angiogram (basically slow-release GTN). Feeling a bit wonky on the first day. Did my BP reading and can see why: 99/77.

Good that at least you get to see a specialist but do you mean one can't see a cardiologist without referral?

So I have an additional 20yrs on you, but a really bad family history as far as heart conditions go.
My mother and her 3 sibling have all undergone a variety of surgical procedures. All died of cardiac arrest.
My father's side is not much better.
Given the history, I knew my day was coming.
But my cavalier attitude had me unconcerned.

My blood pressure started sky rocking very suddenly. But I ignored it. My GP was constantly on my case.

Then the day came, almost collapsing on a stair case in a shopping centre.
Went home, gave my GP a call - a courtesy heads-up.
She arrived unannounced at home and went bananas. She checked my blood pressure etc, then walked away.
I heard her on the phone, but couldn't hear properly.
She returns and tells me Dr x and Dr y are expecting me.
I tell her I'll go another time.
She says no, they will be seeing me a bit later.
I try negotiate my way out of it, but she's not buying.
15 minutes later, approaching sirens in the distance. I go icy cold, sensing this may be for me. And so it was.
I'm bundled up and off we go racing thru the streets to the hospital.

I was told one of 2 things were probable - a stroke or cardiac arrest.
I stayed overnight on a cocktail of things, a week later I was back, being carved up for hours on a theatre table like a thanksgiving turkey.

Indeed, this schit creeps up quietly, then suddenly strikes.
And you're feeling better now? That Doc of yours is a good doctor.

A friend in London went to see a cardiologist and said the consultation was £300

Looks about right. But it escalates from there because an angiogram and potential angioplasties are involved. Unless I decide to go back into the “system” at that point to have it done on the NHS, in which event I’d go back in the queue.

Sounds a lot but is it that much for a person earning in pounds? Pediatrician that we take our kid in Jozi charges 1500 rands for example.

p.s. need to ask relatives.

Here in the UK many people go private to see the cardiologist quicker then the cardiologist bumps them up to see them on NHS for further appointments sooner.

Over the weekend i forgot to take my BP pills and on sunday took my heart bp. 137/76 ave over 3 tests with 5min between the tests.

Took them again as soon as i remembered and back down to 121/73

So two days after seeing my cardiologist I was in the A&E cause of chest discomfort/pressure. Was first in line to see the triage nurse, and overheard a woman at the reception desk saying her BP was 220/100. I didn’t even know it could go that high. Wife and I were like O.o
