Blood Pressure...

So the previous surgery I really did not go into here. The surgical procedure itself was successful, the outcome / prognosis not so much.

The last week I have had headaches every night and the slightest physical effort leaves me sweating - even in the cold in Cape Town today.
So the past few days have been updating my will, a set of instructions about certain things, & the DNR. This evening / tonight was spent in hospital with 2 blood thinning drips & a whole lot of scans.

*for those who have always intended getting a DNR drawn up, but never got around to it - help yourselves - personal info has been blanked out.

I have no intention of dropping dead, but figured this was a good time to get things in order.
I have only 1 wish if I land up going into cardiac arrest - please dear god, not in the fresh produce section at Spar while I'm choosing fruit - and not while I'm stalking a chicken

Respect. And I do understand.

Good luck my friend.

Wow man, very brave and all the best to you, i hope you stay alive as long as you are wanting to.

Is there anything that you are doing different in your life vs prior your diagnosis?
Like let's say you always wanted to rock climb so now you doing that everyday.

One thing I experienced in the beginning(No introduction or advice or knowleadge by GP's), is after I experienced problems, I stop using the pills, felt next day like a school kid for two days, then as a reverse reaction my blood pressure shot up to dangerous high levels(192/140) suddenly, I felt really bad, thats when I went straight to specialist, he sonared me etc, said I was lucky nothing damaged yet, so the pill he described I had no side effects, but recently the Medical aid start complainuing about the cost of which they only paid about a 3rd in any case,.......

The other thing is you must be carefull for any complex symptoms you never experienced before with these dangerous pills, thats administred like bubble gum on the fly, like its a new best practice trend to follow.

Another dangerous thing is never use a pill twice in 24 hours even if presrcibed when the correct strenth is not available, this can kill you in my opinion.

been averaging 130/85 for the last month. Not on any meds

today 150/90 .. instant headache and dizziness .

need to do some more exercise . Im currently only doing strength or cardio only once a week .

Bru, go for a walk. Hitting the gym once a week is just not as cardiovascularly beneficial as going for 5000 or more steps 3 times a week.

I was hitting those numbers, while sitting behind a pc! Stress, smoking, being inactive for hours, from the pc to the TV, to the bed and back.

Now, today, 120/80 or thereabouts, with a resting heartrate below 60. All from walking 5000 then 10,000 then 15,000 steps a day.

Currently, rain or shine, it's 7500 steps for me, but I gym 4 times a week. But it took 3 years to get to that point. It all started with gentle walking somewhere peaceful.

My last 2 dr readings have also been nearly perfect 120/80 for the first time in about 6 years.
I do high intensity intervals training which I've found gives me both cardiovascular and strength improvements.
I also feel way better.
Congrats on the walking and improvements.
Strength workouts don't hit the lungs as much which is why I do them only in rare occasions if I want to work on something specific

Hmm just found this thread. Had my BP checked in Dec while visiting doc because not shaking a flu. 170/110. Was shocked as I never suspected. I guess tons of wine, beer, chips & snacks on top of work stress takes its toll. As do cooking with loads of salt. Anyways, made the decision right there to cut salt, snacks and alcohol. Doc put me on BP meds few days ago.
currently my BP is 164/79 @ 48bpm.
BP is lower in morning than in evening. I guess due to rest at night vs coffee during the day.
Seems that I am joining you on this journey

How was your blood pressure determined-?
When any of your blood pressures were measured, had you lay down on a bed for at least 15 minutes at GP before a decision was made, and was the decision to administer HB pills done "on the fly"-?, just curious.
-Myne was done "on the fly".....years ago I was unknowledable about these dangerous pills, and and was saved by a specialised after 2 GP's nearly got me killed with generics.

Found that sugar also contribute to high BP.
Depends on the amount of sugar, and the type. Eating a apple vs a spoon full of sugar syrup (Coca-Cola).

It gets fairly complex. Between insulin response, age, sleep, cardiovascular health, gut health and existing physiological considerations.

Moral of the story, the more artificial and processed the food is, the less frequently you should have it, and vice versa.

For me personally, I've always had the best health / fitness results from starting with replacing a "bad" habit with something "better". One less burger, but some more vegetables. One less soft drink, one more water, or coffee. One less teaspoon of sugar... you get the idea.

Some generics do the job just as well as the branded stuff, but it is recommended that you do a regular testing schedule when switching over to a generic brand, just to make sure it does the job.

Should you feel funny, or there's unwanted side-effects, cease use immediately and go back to your GP for a second decision. If GP insists on keeping you on the generic medicine, switch GP's.

Have found that by simply cutting out instant coffee, altogether, has brought my high BP levels right down to more acceptable levels ; now experiencing low BP readings at times.

Makes sense. Caffeine constricts blood vessels.

Has made the world of difference to how I feel about my BP.

I was having up to 5 cups of the stuff a day ! (but mostly around 3 ... to 4, sometimes).

Now waiting for feedback from doctor, but took the step in the meantime (after discussing with a pharmacist) to take only 1/4 of my BP tablet per day, as more than that now gets it too low.

When you are given any dangerous pill thats not easy to stop using after in your body(This is one scenario, the side effects are another), the GP should take control, he is the expert at that stage, not me the patient(I pay him dearly for his job), I have no other words for the medical profession yet.
