Blood Pressure...

I tried Atkins/Keto but its a two-edges sword. Weight literally falls off - but then i get a monster gout attack, and i'm hardly having red meat.
It's a common temporary issue and goes away within a week or 2. Ketones have an initial effect on your kidney's metabolism and excretion of uric acid, but your body balances it out quite quickly.

you're about to die... and you need to read that a few times. If that BP measurement is accurate then you are about to die.

1) Go buy an expensive and good BP monitor, I use an Omron M6 (prices have doubled as per normal greedy SA) but please don't buy a R200 BP monitor.

2) Do multiple readings throughout the day.

3) If it is still very high then you need to go on a statin right away.

4) Now you need to change your diet immediately. No more alcohol and junk food etc. Just try it for 1 month... you can do this. Then add a lot of garlic into your diet, crush it then wait 15min and drink it down, a lot of it.

5) No smoking.

6) No more doom and gloom, don't even watch the news or read anything that will stress you out, you need to calm your mind, just chill in the garden, play with the dogs and relax. Stressing is a killer.

7) If you don't do the above today, you'll be dead tomorrow.
NO
Statins are NOT for BP, and statins are evil anyway.

ja sorry buddy you're very over weight..

1) no fast food or restaurant food at all!
2) no oil in your foods, literally ONLY extra virgin olive oil
3) no cereal rubbish
4) if you want to snack, just make some popcorn (not microwave!) little salt...little oil...
5) lots of water 24/7 (don't drown yourself)
6) last meal of the day, as early as humanly possible...
7) first meal of the day, as late as humanly possible...
8) limit your carbs to the minimum
9) do NOT exercise too hard, don't stress your ticker out until it's ready
10) the above... just walk around the block every day or every other day
11) no sugar

12) everything is tough at the start, it does get a lot easier
Terrible advice. Just terrible. You talk about limiting carbs but suggest snacking on popcorn? Inconsistent and inaccurate.

Had a checkup this morning at the doc. BP 135/65, just before blood tests so I'm fairly sure I wasn't as relaxed as I could be - the phlebs always battle to find my veins. She got it on the 3rd attempt today, after I pointed out to her which vein to use.

Still a little worried about the disparity between systolic and diastolic, but everything moving in the right direction, hopefully I'll be able to get off the meds soon.
What's moving it? Low carb diet + exercise (zwift training plan 4x a week - 30-45min per day)

Word. Managed to get the pharmacist to agree to dropping mine down to 5mg. Still on the fence whether or not I should stop them completely because of my history, but for the last 5 years of **** symptoms and side effects statins are pretty much the only constant, so to me it’s pretty obvious what’s causing them.

so what's wrong with the statins...besides the winds

They’re not designed to manage blood pressure, they’re purely for cholesterol. And the side effects (a lot more than just wind in some people) can outweigh the marginal benefits of being on them (something like 1.8% reduction in heart attacks).

I’m on both BP tablets and statins. The latter manages cholesterol, which in turn is thought to cause atherosclerosis, which in turn increases blood pressure, though high BP is also a cause of atherosclerosis.

So, in a roundabout way, yes, statins treat high BP by potentially preventing what causes it. BP medication, on the other hand, works by relaxing your blood vessels.

Can confirm re the above. Am also on cholesterol meds, and now my BP meds is a bit too strong.

Not complaining though.

Was on 2 different tablets for BP for months. Stopped the one and then the other suddenly started working properly, and I could finally put my shoes on again because the edema started going down.

you clearly have NO idea what microwave popcorn is vs normal popcorn.

and this is why you are in the predicament you are in...

Popcorn is starch, darling child.
Starch is glycaemic carbohydrate.

Round 2:

How many of you have had your thyroid function checked? Turns out both hypo and hyperthyroidism affect the heart, including hypertension. Had full bloods done recently (including testosterone, B12, D, etc) because I’ve been feeling like crap for a while, and have arrhythmia issues, and my thyroid was quite low, so having a chat with my GP later to discuss the way forward.
