Blood Pressure...

132/84 and realized I forgot to take meds in the morning. Will start taking them in the evening now to see if it works better. It didn't last time but one never knows.

wrist machines are a joke, dont ever trust that
indeed

also - many ppl forget, when taking blood pressure, both the cuff and arm should be a heart level.
if the arm is higher or lower than heart level - indicated blood pressure will misread at a higher or lower pressure as the heart adjusts to maintain optimum blood flow to the extremities.

You mean forearm, right? I take BP after sitting at same kitchen table and just checked that forearm rests approximately on heart level. I didn't know this.

Strange is that when I go to current GP, I sit normal and he just takes my BP when my forearm is below heart level and not resting on any arm rest or anything.

Weirdly, something good seems to be happening (I hope?). Reading this morning is 108/81.

Highest it’s been since I started tracking daily again since 22 April is 126/89. Systolic has gradually been going down since then (consistently below 120) but diastolic has just refused to drop along with it (it bounces around a lot between 81 and 89, but recent averages have been below 85). Isolated diastolic hypertension is purely lifestyle, though.

cuff at bicep, ideally at level of heart.
ideally
for ppl in fairly good health it's not imperative - there is some leeway, for others with known cardiac issues (bp related) - best practice at heart level

138/84 :( still on meds.
my twice daily smorgasbord for the rest of my days - except the one with the red ring.

thats the "tv" drug you see ppl having to gobble when having a heart attack - a "as when needed" medication, with a warning "no more than 2 per day".

it's a bit of a pain, but after more carving up like a thanksgiving turkey & the twice daily pharmaceutical feast, my bp is pretty much constant around 140/80 - an improvement from 225/140

Always wondered what that magic pill was.

I just have a few of these scattered around for the same thing (next to the bed, in the car, my backpack, etc), and it’s probably more effective as it enters your bloodstream almost instantly:

could be an interesting night . . .
feeling peculiar, light headed, chest pain, blood pressure is definitely going up again

popped one of these under the tongue, but somehow suspect i may be seeing the inside of an ambulance later

Systolic finally seems stable. The isolated diastolic hypertension is a bit of a concern still, but I know they won’t be able to get it down with medication, so it’s down to lifestyle changes.

My BP has been going up lately as well. I stopped caring abit of late and drop the carnivore diet and now my vitals are totally out of whack again. Dr started me on 5mg Amlodipine as the Zartan which I am on. Second day of strict carnivore again so hopefully this and OMAD can get my vitals back in check again.

In modern medicine, more often than not, they are frantically trying to suppress the symptoms (usually with medications) created by imbalances in the body without trying to fix the underlying imbalance that are creating the symptoms. Forcefully lowering high blood pressure with medications while ignoring the causes of the high blood pressure is the perfect example of this.

This is important because it is not the high blood pressure creating the increased risk for heart disease, it's the imbalances that cause high blood pressure that are also creating increased risk. If you just treat high blood pressure with medications and ignore the underlying imbalances, you are giving a false sense of decreased risk and leaving the person vulnerable to worsening vascular disease, or worse, heart attack or stroke.

Modern medicine in a nutshell. For at least the past decade or so, doctors have been taught to prescribe instead of cure. You cure everyone, and there will no longer be a need for Big Pharma.

Oh God, amlodipine was terrible. I couldn’t put on my shoes for the few months I was on it because of the insane amount of swelling. Stopped, and it immediately went down again.

I am new to the club, on Amloc 5mg, which seems to be the same class?

So far so good, 130/80 down from 150/100.

Think most doctors tell you to change your lifestyle and stuff while giving you hypertension meds? It's better to have you take them while you change your lifestyle as near immediate effect since usually you can just stop again, and this stops stuff like kidney damage.

I'm in the boat that it's hereditary, by mid 30's I will be on blood pressure meds, despite not drinking or smoking and exercising and eating healthy; literally only cup of coffee left I can change (so max like 5 mm Hg though testing myself it's 2 mm Hg max when cold turkey).
I am stuck at lower elevated at near 30, there is not one person in my family who was not on blood pressure pills by mid 30 for both sides of the family tree, but family tree includes near everyone being late 80s, with three at 96 to 102.
Luckily none of them has had a heart attack, and the only strokes have been cancer related.
Nearly half of U.S. adults have high blood pressure.
Of course can argue diet etc. there, but just saying there's a load of people who are doing fine with medication, just want to discourage people that have been prescribed meds to not take them.
