Blood Pressure...

I go to my GP every 6 months for prescription of BP meds and don't recall of him suggesting anything really. I am fat (about 15kg based on BMI) although I wouldn't call myself unfit but that is highly subjective* in any case.

I am sure there are objective tests but I won't pay for them

Main question is, are you brown?

Ok, asked because whitey has it slightly better when it comes to cardiac issues. Blacks are predisposed to higher risk of stroke, while anyone from the sub continent is at higher risk of heart attacks.

So, basically, your genetics are counting against you, and you need to be extra vigilant.

Pleased to report that after three weeks of high skrik vir niks BP I got it licked.

Seems my Kryptonite is red meat and pies.

Yesterday and today I ate baked beans instead of red meat, and what the hey, my BP's stabilized on 120/80 while pulse rate is 65(rest) and 80(working) where previously it was easily 140/90/80 to 100bpm, and it did not skrik for the usual medicines.

Scary ****.

Monitoring more often now, am glad that's one thing sorted out before it could get any worse.

Anyways, now I can sleep more relaxed knowing my BP is sorted out for now.

So, how's your day going my friend?

I am surprised that it took just 2 days of baked beans diet to stabilize your BP. I literally eat beans (of many kinds - moth/red kidney/mung/you-name-it) at least 2 days a week and don't eat too much fatty food either but still on co-zomovek for as long as I remember. :-(

*I admit that my salt intake is a bit higher than others in family but I have been trying to cut it.

So, quit vaping last Friday (1 November). Almost instant positive results on my BP. However, the last couple of days it went up again, so **** knows tbh.

Yeah, no clue. Back to the usual diastolic number being out of sync with the systolic. Strangely it always seems lower over the weekends - I’m guessing it’s because I get a bit more sleep?

Also, I’ve been off my BP meds completely for around a month now, and the numbers haven’t really changed at all.

Been on Prexum 5mg for 3 years now. BP seems to average 140/90
Now blood work shows impaired kidney function and inflammation
Have swollen left ankle and leg (about 5%)
Have occasional polymyalgia rheumatica, comes and goes. When its bad I cannot get out of bed or off the floor
Have not had red meat for months and consume lots of fruit
Always something for the doctor to focus on

What do you guys use for measuring blood presure. I have a bit of white coat syndrome, when the nurse does it, 165/85 - when I do it over a week at home using some dischem monitor - its in the 125/80.... would like to rule out my monitor being inaccurate.

Currently the Omron M4 Intelli which has bluetooth and automatically sync to app on phone. It usually match or just just lower than when I visit the nurse. This one was paid for by the wealth fund I got from Discovery.

Tx, not too badly priced. Doc has given me till December to get within range... before he steps in with monitoring and meds.

I bought this last year. I visit doc every 6 month to get prescription and he gets BP which is more or less in ballpark of this monitor.

Do you take BP at home same time as when you go to nurse ? And in approximately same conditions? (e.g. no walking to clinic etc?)

That's the thing, when its at the clinic, its always a rush - last time was blood donation a few weeks ago - and the centre was not where it was supposed to be, so was running around to look for it.

Time before - was while being stuffed around by the pharmacy stuff.... all these things elevate blood pressure.

(also - it doesn't help by the time I do it at a clinic, I'm three espresso's and a preworkout up)

EDIT: This one is similiar to what I have.

EDIT: I see the new Amazfit watch I have an order has blood pressure monitoring in some countries - not sure if SA will have it - but - probably not accurate.

Take your home monitor with you the next time you got to the clinic, and ask the nurse to take a reading using her machine and yours. If they’re the same, you at least know your readings at home are accurate.

And yes, taking your reading after that much caffeine is pretty dof.
