Blu-ray 3D specifications finalized, your PS3 is ready!

You've said some pretty nasty things about them. If they knew it, they'd prolly not sell you a single product.

You said it was cheap.

So yeah value for money is cheap depending what can be afforded

I still claim I said nothing nasty about the Japanese. It's all in your head bud. Lets not get in another tangle. ;)

Er...

Can't you sit in an approximate semi-circle around your TV?

Yep, It was just a sarcastic snide toward the forever reference to the damn same graphs. If you want to enjoy HD on your small 46" or 32" TV you sit in front of the damn thing, like at your PC. Then you will see a difference. Certain members believe you should not go Full HD as it makes no difference if you sit at the back. Yeah they are so right so why sit at the back! Sit where you damn well want not where a graph the Internet say.

That stuff is based on science and not BS Fanboyism. :)

Then again, perhaps you have some super duper eyes there with a higher than average density of photoreceptors, a better than average cornea and lens and so perhaps, you should put that in your will that one day you'll donate those eyes to science.

Yep, just so funny it happen to be that you sit on front of your PC with a Nice graphic's card and very high resolution. Just explain to me WHY?

It's there. I'll drop it but if Matsuda saw your rants from last year, he'd distance himself from you. So would Howard Stringer, you know they would force him to.

Secondly, the graphs aren't there just for planning. They illustrate the cold, hard truth about 480p (NTSC), 720p and 1080p and viewing distance and screen size. To get the full benefit of 1080p you need a pretty massive set unless you live in a tiny flat in Bratislava or Sapporo. Here in SA, we all own houses and we have big living rooms with even bigger braai patios to enjoy our rugby and boerewors. For that, we need big sets. Sadly the industry is pushing BD on us but not giving us cheap 72 inch and up screens. They could in effect be selling 720p Blurays and the visuals would be the same for most and for a good many people DVD and BD makes no difference because they sit too far away from their Sony Bravia 40 inch set they paid R27K just a year ago.

You sit with a 24 inch screen about 30-40cm away. Your PC is on your desk, your keyboard's on your desktop. You're within 3.5 heights.

I must admit I was astounded by the quality of DSTV HD which is only 720p and I did find myself asking what the harm is in getting an HD ready TV for a few thousand less... :/

That depends on the size of your room. Most people can only afford tiny sets - you know 40 inches. 40 inches is not tiny but for the distance they sit at and the hyped up FULL HD they should enjoy - a much larger set is necessary.

 +1
screw 3D I say, they should rather take all the money spent on 3D and give us cheaper OLED screens instead

They want to sell the same movies again, in 3D. You bought the VHS, you've bought the LD, you've bought the DVD, you've bought the BD, now buy the 3D BD!!! Coming Soon!!!!!!1 It's the best thing evar!!!!!!11111 FTW!!!!1111111

so was I, but DSTV has pretty poor quality picture most of the time so thats also probably a factor

If that's what you're gonna be watching and using that same distance, get the cheaper set. Hopefully get one with better contrast. However, since prices are dropping, wait a bit longer and that R25K set will be R12 in 6-8months.

It was an ocean documentary in 720p HD, absolutely astounding. But yeah, from what I hear not all of DSTVs HD programme are fantastic.

correction, my parents bought a few VHS, i bought a few DVD, I downloaded all the BD, I wont bother with 3D BD, i feel sorry for the people who have 5 copies of the same movie though

42" and I'm sitting about 10' away (as South Africans do) so why not get HD ready then? I'll also use it for 1080p gaming, but again at that distance, as you've shown me, there is no point in wasting money.

I'm just showing how the industry thinks.

Exactly my point. What does the Tiny flat got to do with the screen size as long as it fits on one wall? You will see more detail and be better emerged. As I said if you want to enjoy or be emerged in the Detailed graphics I sit at the screen. If I must, then within the 2m range. If I want to braai, I braai I do not watch TV. If you want to watch TV while you braai then Yeah You need a 155" screen to see decent detail that far away, If you can afford it why not. Its like saying Do not buy that 32" HD tv as YOU MUST SIT 5 METERS AWAY BECAUSE YOUR LOUNGE IS TO BIG. Nope I will sit where I want and enjoy HD DEATAIL if I want to.

Most of us who aren't HT otakus or addiicts, have general purpose houses. We have a living room and we have a couch and we put the set on the wall opposing the couch and don't put the couch in the middle of the room but at the other end, you know. There may be a coffee table in the middle maybe.

Now BD gets continually hyped as this super-duper HD thing. Wow! 4x the detail! Super clarity! Wow! Home Cinema!

Except that for the screen size most shops sell and room size most people own (the living room being usually the largest in the house) you aren't getting those promised pixels, not unless you watch with binoculars or put your couch very close to the TV - but that kind of makes one look stupid. Of course most people won't even do that and think they're seeing all 2 million pixels, meanwhile they could be watching a DVD and they wouldn't know it.

Look next time, instead of retyping the same thing over for you, just look at my previous posts, ok, Penguin?

I can more than easily put down R120K for a screen, I just don't see a need for it.

Sure, ;) ;)I remember the old rants all of them!.:whistle::whistle:

The rest just what we are saying. Because we sit miles away the screens it makes no difference so rather buy "cheap" that means you have to spend about 50%+ for a product below par. Then wait for the prices to come down and then buy again. Then bemoan the fact that better and further advanced technology are already released making your existing products incompatible. I remember! Well the next best thing is to just wait forever.
