Bluetooth Headset through Windows Dialer

Hi,

I've got my Bluetooth headset working through Skype, but since I don't have a phone installed (but ADSL line) I would like to use Windows XP's dialer to be able to make calls through my PC.

When they installed my line, they said that I would need a filter if I want to install a telephone. So I am just wondering if this is the reason I cannot get the dialer to work through my PC and bluetooth headset?

Has anyone else done this or tried it?

Do you want to make calls using SkypeOut or over your normal Telkom line? If you want to use your normal phone line you'll need to connect it to a modem through a microfilter.

I want to be able to make regular calls through my ADSL line using my Bluetooth headset connected to my PC.

I dont have a regular phone installed at the moment hence the reason for the bluetooth route.

What is a micro filter, and how does it work?
 
I'm not totally sure how you'd pair the bluetooth headset to your windows dialer but on the phone line side you'll be able to get a microfilter from any Telkom shop, shouldn't be more than R50 I don't think. Its basically just a box you connect your modem/normal phone into and then connect the other end into the wall socket so that the ADSL signal doesn't affect your analogue phone line.
 
Presumably Windows XP's dialer works through your modem so yeah - you're going to need a micro-filter for any telephonic activities including phoning and faxing.
 
Ok, when you guys speak of a modem, are we talking of a 56k normal modem cause I don't have one installed. What I have is a PC, bluetooth dongle, bluetooth headset and ADSL modem.

Now what I would like to do is use windows dialer to make a call through my ADSL modem, using my bluetooth setup.

There must be a bit of software someone has written to do this? (as if the software is the filter itself). I could very well buy Skype Out minutes and use that to call, but it'd be grand if there is some kind of software which can do this so I don't have to pay for Skype Out or use any more of my bandwidth...

I dont think its going to happen that way. Your ADSL modem isnt set up for that sort of thing. It is probably possible with a standard pots modem that supports voice but that would run independently of your adsl.

On the other hand you can get a device like the uConnect (Voipvoice.com) that plugs into the back of your PC and lets you connect any standard phone (even a cordless one) and make calls either via skype or via telkom. There are various other similar devices on the market.
 
Cut the commercials and buy a telephone.

Why try to re-invent the wheel?
 
We're sourcing ideas here Getafix...never know what brilliance can come out of an ADSL Bluetooth pot :)
