BMW Chip Tuning

You are not going to gain much by chip tuning a standard 1600.

I'm not too sure with a bmw, but if I wanted better performance from a 1600 I would rather look into getting a performance branch, freeflow exhaust and a performance air filter. Get reputable brands. This will give your car better performance and it will be fuel economic if driven normally.

Then have your car dyno tuned. Just by doing these 3 upgrades you could gain 10% more power.

Thanx

haha what is he going to do with that pic ...is it something to tie on your roof :p

if im not mistaken its a manifold which forms part of your exhaust and your car gains extra power

OP there is a guy in rondebosch ...not sure the name but i know his a family friend

he specialises in BMW M models but sure he works on all

If I recall correctly all the items I listed before assists the engine to breath better.

Here is some info regarding performance branch manifolds. http://viperperformance.co.za/

I put a Viper branch on my 1600 corolla when the original one cracked.

BMW e36 1992 316i.. Bought 2 years ago to fix her up as a hobby. Only started a weeks ago was standing in garage the whole time :o . Other forum guys suggested not to touch Chip at this stage ...

i did not see this ...chipping that is not going to get anywhere

as marco said ..so go that route would be better

316i is actually a 1800... BMW didnt put anything lower in any of their 3series models... #justsaying :P

BUT, as i said earlier, you are correct in what you say about what to modify... Chip on a 1.6,1.8 will make a difference, but first get the car breathing right! EG, Branches, Free-Flow, Proper Air Filter and even full induction kit if you so please... Once you have that done, consider the stage 1 chip...

I really don't understand why people buy a normally-aspirated car and then want to 'chip' it.

Because a '89 318i with Poweflow Branches and Exhaust, KnN Cone Filter and SAC stage one conversion which includes the chip basically makes it play with the E36 325i :) So it does still make a NA car fun while not carrying the costs of running and servicing a turbo...

If I recall, a 316i was a 1.6 at one stage ... Probably early too, which means its very possible the OP has a 1.6

... Maybe if the stage 1 included a turbo/supercharger and shave 200kg off ... ;)

Those mods aren't going to take a (roughly) 80kw car to 140kw ...

/puts head in hands and sighs...

I wasn't asking, i was telling! We were on the N2 coming back from Plett and played the entire way back with a 325i E36 which sounded like it had atleast a filter on it. Then another time on the West Coast road from Suldana Bay we picked up a dice with a E30 325i (not the "S") and once again... The 318i with its mods sat with it!

I stand to be corrected here, but the car was 87kw standard and after the mods were done she was sitting on 122kw... These are figures from the dyno and not thumb suck figures. I might be 1 or 2 kw's out here, but im almost certain those were the correct figures. Also, dont forget, Higher kw doesn't always mean that the car performs better or is quicker... Im not talking about 120kw vs 220kw obviously...

Over 30kw?
Mmmmm...........

How much did you spend to get that extra 35kW?

I'm asking because in comparison, my Saab puts out 188kW/350Nm. A simple remap costing around R7K (Vtuner Stage 0) can get it to 235kW/550Nm. You don't even want to know what Stage 3 looks like :D

WOAH! Thats a big difference. Is it a turbo charged SAAB?

Not sure what my dad spent on all his mods, but prob a little more... This was also around 10yrs ago, so price comparison wont be very accurate...
