BMW Drivers = Psychopaths

This is exactly where I think it's gonna be at. A truck's gonna have a beeeeeg battery and waiting 2 hours for it to 'fast charge' is simply not practical.

Its actually an interesting "thought experiment"

How would EVs fit into the trucking world?
I could see small scale stuff (like 4ton trucks and smaller as an eg) that just do local stuff easily being EVs so long as the range fully loaded is 400kms or so, then they can be charged up at night. Its the long haul and big tonnage stuff that I think EVs will struggle in.

IMHO the real answer is that big tonnage stuff belongs on a electric train, and smaller trucks can take it from there.

I was actually watching a show the other day where this was discussed and it made sense. A truck has space for Hydrogen, where space in a car size vehicle is a problem. In fact, they were talking about a Hydrogen infused film that has much higher energy density than Hydrogen in gas form. I’ll go look and see if I can find it.

Between the cities, I don't disagree at all, but there will always be a need for big tonnage haulage on the roads, it just in theory shouldn't be on our main arterial routes between cities

I have only really seen electric rails in cities. But do we even still have rail infrastructure left ( have seen many overgrown rails). Not sure about the statutory inspections to get them serving again, but I presume that it will not be an easy task.

We need the advancement without a doubt otherwise all vehicles would still look like and behave like this :

One of the technologies I'm actually most "excited" about from an engine point of view is the FreeValve stuff. If ICE was still the long term future for vehicles, its the one tech that has the most promise in my mind.
I am also looking forward to the free valve technology, this should put an end to Cambelt and timing change service but also bring in less load on the engine. Just worried about teething problems if that system gets it wrong it will introduce the valve to the piston.

So in many ways the same issue as when a camblet/timing chain goes pear shaped then :)

I would think the chances of a catastrophic failure like that actually being smaller than with a camblet/timing chain at the end of the day if the system is built properly.

I will be honest I am on the fence on this at the moment, there could be a system glitch and it would cause so major damage, with the belt and the chain you can do preventative services, belt has a service life and chain once you start hearing the rattle you know its time :laugh:

Computers have had glitches in the past on cars personally I had a TCM module failure, misfire which the dealer couldnt recreate, I love the concept of free valve but I dont think I would wanna be a lab rat there :laugh: :laugh: let the Toyota guys take that one :laugh: on a serious not I think Koensigegg or however you spell that is going to be launch it soon in their cars would be good to see the results.
 
A New Study Suggests Sadists and Psychopaths Enjoy Loud Exhausts

A recent study by Western University in Ontario, Canada, investigated the link between personality traits and a fondness for loud exhaust systems.

The study surveyed 529 business students, gauging their opinions on loud vehicles, their connection to their cars, and their likelihood to modify an exhaust for increased noise.

Participants also completed a personality survey assessing traits like narcissism, psychopathy, and manipulativeness. While narcissism scores remained low, those who preferred loud exhausts exhibited higher scores for psychopathy and sadism.

Interestingly, the study focused solely on cars, excluding motorcycles and trucks. The researchers theorize that including larger vehicles, often perceived as more aggressive, could have yielded stronger correlations with sadism and psychopathy.

A new study by Scrap Car Comparison has revealed that BMW drivers are most likely to be psychopaths, in addition to those that drive electric cars or have personalised number plates.

The research tasked 2 000 drivers of varying car makes and model to complete the ‘Psychopath Test’- a twelve-question survey that is able to define where a person falls on the psychopathy scale, and therefore how likely they are to exhibit abnormal, anti-social behaviour. Ranked on a scale of zero (no psychopathy) to 36 (psychopathy likely) the average score across all participants was 6,6.

Scoring almost double the national average, BMW drivers ranked the highest on the psychopathy scale, with an average score of 12,1 out of 36, while Audi drivers were narrowly behind, scoring 11,7. Owners of both of the German car manufacturers have long had a reputation for being temperamental out on the roads, and the findings suggest that these drivers may be more likely to exhibit psychopathic traits such as superficial charm, grandiose sense of self-worth, and a lack of remorse or guilt.

After a long weekend away last week, I drive home from the airport. (a long drive for me, 200km)

Get tailgated by a white BMW from Belville, who eventually passes me and then proceeds to drive 1mm from a truck in front's bumper. So close that he cannot see what's going on, rendering him unable to pass.

Eventually, after maybe 5 minutes a couple others and I pass both of them, leaving the chop behind, still glued to the truck's bumper.

Later, to my relief the knob in the beemer zooms past again into the distance, leaving us in peace.

I stop at the quick spar near my house before going home to get some basics. A VERY busy quick spar where parking is at a super premium. You wouldn't guess who's parked across THREE parking space. (well you would)
 
Are BMW drivers really the worst at parking? New survey isn't flattering

When it comes to bad driving practices like tailgating and parking across lines, fingers most often point to BMW drivers.

A new study in the UK shows there could be some truth to the stereotypes, at least when it comes to parking.

A company called Scrap Car Comparison asked car owners if they felt they needed further training or assistance with parking, and 48% of respondents said they did.

However, 68% of the BMW drivers in the survey indicated they need such assistance, a whopping 20% above the average.

But rival German brands weren’t far behind, with Audi and Mercedes drivers coming second and third on the list with respective self-confessed incompetence rates of 64% and 63%.

Honda, Toyota, Kia, Citroen, Ford, Hyundai and Fiat completed the top 10 in that order.

Narrowing it down to vehicle propulsion types, drivers of electric vehicles fared worst, with 66% admitting they needed assistance with their parking, versus 49% for owners of hybrid or petrol cars, while owners of diesel vehicles fared best at 39%. Could it be that the latter tend to drive commercial vehicles and are thus better practiced?

The survey found that 17% of drivers often felt stressed or worried about having to park, while 14% revealed they were embarrassed about their parking.
