The BMWs are actually pretty clever w/ working out when they need a service. It just didn't occur to ze Germans that someone might reset the counter without actually changing the oil.I am totally against the car deciding when it needs a service.

Getting the same story from every end: The car was not requesting an oil service so they didn't do it at the last service. When I mention that the oil would have already been pretty poor by that point, they say it's not standard procedure to check the oil unless the service indicator tells them to.
Goes back to what Fazda was saying.. total reliance on computers (possibly due to chasing targets) leads to poor workmanship.
I got offerred a good trade in and price on a new BMW.. why would I want to buy another BMW after this?
