BMW Motorplan - beware

Very dodgy looking place in Alberton.. but the guy knows what he's doing with the diagnostic reader and does his best to get the car going strong. I'll get his details.. don't have it on me right now.

With all due respect, if even ONE filter ends up looking like that after 30 000km, then BMW should either rethink their oil change intervals or change to a superior oil.

Don't think he'd want me to give his cell number out publically but he's at Cnr Pieter Uys and Prinsloo in Alberton. The small building he's renting says "Panelbeaters/Spraypaint" on the front. He's there on the weekends.

TA : Even if you were not billed for the work by BMW, they clearly did not do their job even VAGUELY correctly...

Checking an oil filter is not a difficult job. I would be having a massive argument with the Dealer Principal and still dragging BMW SA into this, because that level of service is beyond unacceptable. They level you with a car that was unsafe, and possibly damaging itself. Do you think they would have paid for all the repairs should stuff have gone wrong because they couldn't check the oil properly?

I am totally against the car deciding when it needs a service.
The BMWs are actually pretty clever w/ working out when they need a service. It just didn't occur to ze Germans that someone might reset the counter without actually changing the oil. :(

Ze trouble iss vee are dealing viss South Heffrican technicians, undt zey are nott alvays zet hefficient... Ja...

So many nasty experiences, rather gimme me a shout or send me a pm when you have vehicle problems .
I assist with various brands of Vehicles !!!!

Getting the same story from every end: The car was not requesting an oil service so they didn't do it at the last service. When I mention that the oil would have already been pretty poor by that point, they say it's not standard procedure to check the oil unless the service indicator tells them to.

Goes back to what Fazda was saying.. total reliance on computers (possibly due to chasing targets) leads to poor workmanship.

I got offerred a good trade in and price on a new BMW.. why would I want to buy another BMW after this?

YUP, sorry about that...I rest my case ;)

I wouldn't buy a bottle of water at Auto Atlantic. I have 5 boxes full of court documents to show why. And they had a gall to appeal and get thrown out by a full bench of the Cape High Court.

Do NOT use dealers unless you totally have to. Paid R93 this morning at Mercedes Benz Rosebank for a parking light bulb. Normal one costs R3, but this is a special off-set piece of crap that you can only get there. Nice.. *******s

I feel your pain man. Luckily you got it sorted out.
The independent, good mechanics are worth their weight in aluminium (sorry gold). I had a 'guy' also, but he unfortunately moved to Loi Tritchard, he is a wizard when it comes to BMWs. I miss that guy

Please share recommended mechanic details if possible

For BMW you can look at Ross Duncan in Midrand. Thats where I take my post motorplan 3 series. He gives good advice, and doesnt just replace an item to make profit.

Also, search the BMWfanatics forums for additional service centers in other locations.

FWIW I had plenty of after sales experiences with Porsche, BMW and Toyota. Toyota is by far the best experience and reason why I will continue to buy their products.
