BMW X7

Manhart BMW X7 makeover comes with 478 kW and lots of carbon fibre

The German tuner has now given the flagship Bavarian SUV their usual makeover. The Manhart BMW X7 MHX7 650 now comes with 478 kW, lots of carbon fibre and trademark matte black and gold paintwork.

As you can expect, the Bavarian beast and flagship of their SUV range has had a considerable power upgrade. The Manhart BMW X7 now comes with 650 Hp (478 kW) as the MHX7 650 name signifies, 88 kW more than before. Torque has als been pushed up to a ludicrous 920 N.m from its previous 750 N.m.

BMW X7 LCI supposedly leaked, split headlights and all

It’s been rumoured for a while now that BMW has decided to go the split headlight route for its flagship ’7 models, the X7 LCI, 7 Series LCI and upcoming i7.

A common trend we’re seeing more and more of, it might not come as a surprise in 5 years’ time when everything from a Hyundai Creta to the Rolls-Royce Spectre has a ‘splitty’ design upfront in one form or antoher.

Perhaps the first luxury manufacturer to show their variation on the split headlight theme, BMW may have cottoned on to something here, their distinctive face highlighting their flagship models from the rest of their range.

BMW X7 LCI Leaked Showing Controversial Styling

We cannot confirm 100% that it is a legitimate leak.

We know the X7 is getting a refresh very soon as camouflaged prototypes have been spotted testing for well over a year but now we get our first look at the controversial split headlight design thanks to another leak on Instagram.

We knew that the high-end BMW models (X7, 7 Series, and XM) would be getting a new front end design language that will consist of big kidney grilles and split headlights but this is the first time we are seeing the new design language, without camouflage.

We cannot confirm 100% that it is a legitimate leak but it does look rather official and perhaps comes straight from the press release pack.

2022 BMW X7 brings new design, engines and tech

Fresh looks and iX-inspired interior updates for the seven-seat luxury SUV

The facelifted BMW X7 receives a bold new front end featuring a split-headlight design and a raft of detailed changes, including an upgraded interior with updated technology and new mild-hybrid petrol and diesel engines.

The 2022 model, unveiled ahead of a start to UK sales in August, arrives three-and-a-half-years after the Audi Q8 and Mercedes-Benz GLS rival first went into production at BMW’s Spartanburg plant in the US.

The distinctive split-headlight treatment on the updated X7 is part of a new design strategy for BMW. In the future, the German brand plans to provide each of its model lines with its own unique look, with differing models, whether saloon, estate or SUV, set to share common design elements.

On the facelifted X7, the upper LED light elements house the daytime running lights and indicators. The more heavily recessed LED units located in the lower section feature low- and high-beam projectors offering adaptive matrix properties.

The front bumper has also been heavily reworked, with new vertical air ducts integrated into the outer section for the cooling of the front brakes. The lower air ducts have also been redesigned, gaining new aluminium-look elements.

As on the recently unveiled facelifted BMW 8 Series, the X7 also features Iconic Glow cascade lighting for its front grille. It comes as standard on the new range-topping M60i xDrive and is offered as an option on other variants.

The new BMW X7 is 400% more obnoxious than before

Facelift for BMW’s big luxury 4x4 removes buttons and adds an angrier face…

Welcome to the future. BMW says the face of the revised X7 isn’t appearing only on this car. The split-headlight, even angrier look is in fact soon to appear on all ‘luxury’ BMWs. Hope you’re excited for the new 7 Series…

Back to the X7 then: the biggest, most expensive of BMW’s SUVs... for now. The plan for this update was to up the luxury (to stay ahead of the incoming new Range Rover), add extra tech, and make the car look even more aggressive. Job done.

The headlights are now split, with the LED running lights up top giving the X7’s face its ‘eyes’, and the main headlamps shunted below. You guessed it, the grilles are indeed bigger. And they can now light up, if you tick the option. Standard X7 still too demure for you? The M Sport is even more furious.

A good nerd nugget for you: this is the first BMW ever made to be offered with 23-inch wheels from the factory. And to give you an idea how big that is, the wheels BMW bolted to the very first M3 measured 15 inches in diameter. Hurrah for progress!

Inside, BMW has made some poor choices. Mainly, it has deleted buttons, replacing them with blank spaces on the dashboard designed to make it feel more minimalist and clean. To adjust the air-con or pop your heated seat on, you have to delve into the giant 14.9-inch curved display as found in the all-electric iX.

BMW X7 gets bold facelift, new gadgets for 2022

The BMW X7 has been given a significant makeover, where a bold new exterior look joins an upgraded engine line-up and a refreshed cabin with brand new electronics.

The biggest exterior changes take place upfront where we see new matrix LED headlights with a split design. There’s also a new illuminated kidney grille, which is standard on the M60i xDrive and optional on the other models. At the back end we see new taillights with 3D sculpting and they’re joined by a new chrome bar that runs along the tailgate.

Buyers can spruce things up further with a newly enhanced M Sport package and for the first time ever on a BMW, 23-inch rims can be specified from the factory.

Inside you’ll find a newly designed dashboard with slim air vents as well as an ambient light bar.

The electronics have been brought up to date too, with the new BMW Operating System 8 providing the computing power. Perched on top of the dashboard is the new BMW Curved Display, which combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 14.9-inch central infotainment system.

Furthermore, BMW has loaded more standard equipment into the X7, including a Harman Kardon sound system, four-zone climate control, panoramic glass roof and wireless phone charging. Buyers can further opt for a Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof with LED illumination, as one of numerous options available in the new BMW X7.

2023 BMW X7 Revealed With New Look and X7 M60i Variant

To go with that bold new styling, BMW added 14 colours to the palette.

The first-ever BMW X7 has been with us for five years already so it was due an upgrade. This time, designers tweaked the X7, giving it an even more controversial, some small updates to the rear, and a revamped cabin with the latest and greatest technology inside.

The biggest change is what we see first, the front. BMW has split its traditional headlight fixture in two for 2023. This dual lighting setup will be the new staple for full-size BMW models, eventually making its way to the electric i7 and 7 Series sedans, as well as the XM hybrid crossover.

On the X7, the LED running lights sit up top near the hood line while the actual headlights live lower down on the bumper.

So what is under the massive hood? The new X7 is available with three different powertrains;

  • X7 xDrive40i: 3.0-litre inline-six with 280 kW and 520 Nm.
  • X7 xDrive40d: 3.0-litre inline-six diesel with 259 kW and 720 Nm.
  • X7 M60i xDrive: 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 with 390 kW and 750 Nm.
The M60i variant has enough grunt to run to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.5 seconds but the actual range-topper will be the future Alpina XB7 packing 630 hp.

BMW X7 Gets Updated Look & Tech

The BMW X7, the Munich-based firm’s largest SUV, has received an update and the new-look model has made its debut at the 2022 New York Motor Show.

The New York International Auto Show is taking place from 15-24 April 2022 and BMW has used the event to showcase its latest wares, including an enhanced BMW X7 SUV with a new look and technology and engine upgrades.

The talking point in terms of design is the new horizontally split LED headlights with the upper section featuring daytime running lights and matrix LED headlights seen in the lower section. The large kidney grille gains an optional Iconic Glow illuminated grille and for the first time the X7 can be equipped with 23-inch BMW Individual wheels. The rear end gains new LED light units with 3D graphics and BMW has also updated its M Sport packages and added a new Sparkling Copper Grey metallic body colour to the range.

Key interior features include a large 12.3-inch instrument cluster and an even larger 14.9-inch infotainment system with the latest BMW Operating System 8. BMW has also added standard features such as Comfort Access, panoramic glass sunroof and heated front seats.

The X7 can seat 7 passengers as standard but it can be had as a 6-seater with 2 comfort seats in the second row as an option.

BMW unveils facelifted grille with an updated X7 attached

It’s been a long time coming, and after an actual eternity of spy shots and supposed leaked images, BMW’s updated X7 – their flagship SUV – has been unveiled and we’ll be hearing no comments about the grille, please…

Speaking of that grille…it’s now flanked by automotive designers’ new favourite design fad; split headlights. From the spyshots that we have seen of the upcoming 7 Series, the G11’s replacement will feature a splitty design upfront, too, as will the XM hybrid crossover.

BMW says that the goal of this new design is to emphasise the X7’s upright stance with the LED running lights sitting close to the bonnet line and the actual headlights sitting lower down on the bumper. The xDrive40d model features shiny silver trim left right and centre and the reworked kidney grille now features darkened slats with a brighter chrome surround. Just in case you were worried that someone wouldn’t spot your 5 metre long BMW, the grille now features a zhuzh Cascade Lighting element within the grill as per the Rolls-Royce Ghost’s Pantheon grille.

WATCH | BMW gives its 2022 X7 a mean look with added luxury and safety tweaks

  • BMW's X7 line-up is revitalised for 2022 with fresh styling and refined engines.
  • Range-topping M60i is coming to SA, but it's just as powerful as the outgoing M50i.
  • Standard features now include HK audio and four-zone climate control.
Rejoice. If you are wealthy and you don't mind filling up. BMW has just announced that its facelifted X7 range will arrive in South Africa in time for Christmas. If you're looking for a R2 million stocking stuffer, you should move those monies, cash in your Bitcoin and Ethereum, or sell your NFTs and place those deposits early.

The fresh face for the X7 falls in line with BMW's design language applied to the hybrid X8 M SUV that's currently undergoing testing. The latest X7 models won't offer sophisticated plug-in charging technologies or anything of that sort. Still, you can expect the new models to provide revised 48-volt electrical systems that augment internal combustion prowess.

To be honest...I Would take the Mercedes GLB instead. Cheaper 7 seaters, and you can add on the extra rear screens. And Mercedes keeps their value far better than BMW.

And you can pick them up from R800k

So you can buy an apartment in CT with the balance and then get about R10k a month rental from that too, covering your fuel bills etc.
