I am looking for authentic South African boerekos recipes.

My grandmother recently passed away. She made the most wonderful meals, but unfortunately she didn't keep recipe books. She made what she learnt from her mother/grandmother and other family. I only have her recipes for kerrie & souskluitjies. She was also the world leader on herbs and spices and could make a boiled egg taste like heaven... trust me, it's true.

I know about boerekos.co.za, but I am looking for more boerekos recipes from you forumites. So, in the words of iCarly: Ask your mother and your sister for their recipe. Your grandmother, your aunt, domestic worker and neighborhood spinsters (hobo's don't cook).

I'm compiling a recipe on Google docs that I'll happily share.
 
BROODSLAAI


Lewer 8 - 10 porsies.

4 ekstra groot eiers
300 g suiker
250 ml witasyn
25 ml mosterdpoeier
2 ml sout
knippie peper
1 witbrood
olie vir diep braai
125 ml vars room
125 ml mayonnaise

Klits eiers, suiker, asyn, mosterd, sout en peper saam tot gemeng. roer aanhoudend en verhit dit tot voor kookpunt.
Laat mengsel afkoel
Sny korsies van brood dun af. Sny brood in blokkies.
Verhit olie tot goed warm en braai broodblokkies daarin tot bros en ligbruin.
Dreineer die blokkies baie goed op papierhanddoek
roer room en mayonnaise by die koue mosterdmengsel.
Giet oor die broodblokkies en meng liggies.
Sit dadelik voor
 
MALVA POEDING:

Bestandele:

250ml strooisuiker

2 eiers teen kamertemperatuur

15ml fyn appelkooskonfyt

1¼ koppie meelblom

5ml koeksoda

knippie sout

30ml botter

5ml asyn

125ml melk

SOUS:

250ml room

125ml botter

125ml suiker

125ml lemoensap, sjerrie of brandewyn

Gebruik ‘n medium grootte mengbak. Klop die eiers en strooisuiker met ‘n klitser deeglik saam tot lig en donsig. Klop die appelkooskonfyt by. Sif die droë bestanddele drie maal saam. Smelt die botter en voeg dit by die asyn en melk. Vou die droë bestanddele om die beurt met die melkmengsel by die eiermengsel. Gooi die beslag in ‘n medium grootte gesmeerde, vuurvaste oondskottel. Bak vir 45 minute teen 180C. Smelt die bestanddele vir die sous saam en gooi oor die poeding sodra dit uit die oond kom.Steek gaatjies in die poeding met ‘n vurk om die sous te help intrek. Dien warm op, saam met vla of room.
 
OUTYDSE ASYNPOEDING:

Bestandele:

SOUS:

500 ml water

500 ml suiker

125 ml asyn

DEEG:

30 ml botter

125 ml strooisuiker

2 eiers

375 ml koekmeelblom

5 ml koeksoda

10 ml gemmer

1 ml sout

2 ml neutmuskaat

30 ml appelkooskonfyt

Verhit die bestanddele vir die sous saam tot kookpunt. Laat prut vir 5 minute en laat afkoel. Voorverhit die oond tot 180C en smeer 'n oondbak van 26 cm met botter. Verroom die botter en suiker tot lig en romerig. Klits die eiers een vir een by. Sif die droë bestanddele saam en roer dit by. Roer die appelkooskonfyt by tot goed gemeng. Skep in die gesmeerde bak en giet die afgekoelde sous bo-oor. Bak vir 30-40 minute tot goudbruin. Sit voor met vla of roomys

Genoeg vir ses mense.
 
OUMA NAKKIE SE GROENBOONTJIES:

Bestandele


1 middelslag ui, gekap

500g groenboontjies, gekerf

1 klein, ryp tamatie, geskil en gekap

sout en swart peper

1 med. grootte aartappel, geskil in blokkies gesny

kookwater

5ml margarien

10ml gekapte pietersielie

Braai ui liggies in 'n kastrol en voeg die groenboontjies, tamatie, aartappel, sout, peper en 'n bietjie kookwaterby indien nodig. Meng die groente liggies. Roer die margarien en pietersielie by. Sit warm voor.
 
Ek vind dit eienaardig dat 'n boerekos en boererate draad in ingils begin word. Dankie Nicci vir die regstelling ;)
 
Weet nie hoe om dit te maak nie ... maar Groenboontjie Bredie....met lekker Mrs. Balls. YUM! My ma het dit altyd gemaak.

Niemand kan kook soos ma en ouma nie! My ouma het 'n bobotie gemaak wat skrik vir niks ... nou is ek honger...

That is the most vile & disgusting schite ever! As a kid you simply had to eat your food so in order to mask that vile taste I would chuck litres of mrs balls onto that crap. I feel sick just thinking about it :sick:

And then you get waterblommetjie bredie which I would not give to my worst enemy.

I don't really have fond memories of 'boerekos', lot of the stuff is just plain yuck.
 
They don’t need to know the quantities, cooking are a routine to them, they add bits, then taste to determine. They will know… Hierdie ou tannie generasies lewer puik resultate.

According to you....just because YOU do not like something, it is quite immature to call it "crap" and "****e" and "vile".

lol :D Daar is niks lekkerder as 'n lekker lams nek bredie nie hmmm gevolg met malva pudding of tuisgebakte ouma melktert!!! Heerlik! En dan met koppie moerkoffie met knypie sout in :D
