Breaking News: Boeremag escapees caught
702 Eyewitness News has learnt that the two boeremag escapees have been recaptured.

Sources say Herman van Rooyen and Rudi Gouws were nabbed shortly after 3am at a townhouse complex in Littleton, Pretoria.

They disappeared from the Pretoria High Court last year, where they were on trial along with 20 others for treason.

The highly trained police task team raided the complex, where they found the two men hiding.

It is understood an R5 rifle was recovered.

Police say investigations are continuing and expect further arrests to be made.

702 Eyewitness News

They are apparently appearing in court this morning, and another couple has been arrested for aiding them

I'm sure it is Lyttelton, Centurion - exactly where I live, as to who ratted them out, Police arrested a couple, Jacobus Bogaards and his wife, Elizabeth, last Saturday at Modimolle in Limpopo.

Also Radio news is now saying that they were caught with R1 rifles not with and R5 - not that it makes much of a difference - but the R1 is more difficult to use, that's why they maybe couldn't use it on time

How much resources did the police spend on getting these guys, and how much resources do they spend on getting farm murderers?

I believe not much on the latter - as measured by the few murderers getting convicted.

Nice neighbours :D

What you mean couldn't use it on time, as in against the cops? I always think people in that situation that fire against the cops are just digging a deeper hole for themselves anyway, its pretty much guaranteed that they will be caught eventually. But then I suppose if you're rational you wouldn't have joined the Boeremag!

Well apparently they resisted arrest, and the rifles were found with rounds in the breech, which to me means they were ready to use them

well these guys are being tried on charges of treason, the highest crime in the country, so it is quite obvious that there would be more focus on them

The two have now appeared in the Pta magistrates court and will be kept in custody at the C-max prison

C-max is only secure if you dont have money to pay the guards, and what's to stop them walking out of court again, maybe not immediately but once the media hype dies down, Police get more lax and who knows ?

Yeah, I don't think they're that much of a threat anymore anyway, but justice still needs to be done.

there is an area in pretoria called Lyttleton...the spelling is incorrect in the 702 article (as if I am suprised by this...)

The spelling is actually LyttELton :)

I believe the area was named after one Lord Lyttel in the days of the Empire's Colonialism.

I don't have a clue who and what he was and what good he did for Brittain to be honoured in such a way.

Good job, at least they caught them again. They belong behind bars.

Any direct threat against any government would be dealt with decisively with all the resources at the states disposal. The ANC led government is no different and even pedantic about this. Pomfret community proposed forced removal a good example.

nah, I am convinced my way is right:-) oddly google gives results (and addresses) using both spellings, but I lived near there a while back and i swear it was lyttleton. acc. to the web it is either a very common misspelling or nobody knows the right spelling anymore

could osmeone who lives in lytt/le/el/ton pretoria please let us know how you spell it, according to the street signs/postal address

I wonder how long they will have to wait this time for justice. Didn't the last lot have to wait 9 years.

Which last lot are you referring to, AFAIK, they are part of the guys standing together at the high court - and that case has not yet been finalised - the only other treason trial - AFAIK - is the Rivonia treason trial, which lasted less than a year

@ Werner, sorry Kaspaas is right, the area is spelled Lyttelton, at least that's what the signboards say - I live in the area
