You're missing the point. They had to spend a hang of a long time WAITING for the trial.

Justice delayed is justice denied.

No good playing games with people and making them wait forever just because they don't agree with ANC politics.
 
Are you sure they were forced to wait? Often defence lawyers ask for postponements etc.

The trial began only three years ago. Since then the Boeremag triallists have refused to recognise the authority of the court, and the government. They have lodged urgent applications over their prison conditions (as is their right) which have delayed the trial numerous times.

Yes, justice delayed is justice denied. In this case it is justice for (non Boeremag-supporting) SAfricans that is being denied.

They've spent a long time in prison waiting for the trial to begin. There have also been problems with getting legal aid sorted. They're also getting bullied and hampered in prison.

Jordaan on Tuesday this week ordered the prison service to return Wilhelm Pretorius' laptop computer to him and to allow his fellow accused, who are in jail with him, to use the computer to study the record of proceedings.

The State supplied Pretorius with an electronic record of the court proceedings, which he and others used to prepare for the trial. The Judge said he could not see any prejudice in their use of the computer for the purpose and it could it fact prevent unnecessary delays in the trial.

No contact visits with wife for 12 months
The trial was once again delayed on Tuesday when the accused complained about the treatment they received in prison. Counsel for Tom Vorster said he wanted to put on record the "pattern of victimisation" against his client, who had been battling to get a contact visit with his wife for the past 12 months.

Seriously dude, you can't complain when the cops catch people and when the cops don't catch people.

They where allegedly trying to overthrow the government in a coup and throwing all the black people out of the country.

The police did a brilliant job of getting them and since they where armed at the time I think the money was well spent.

Great success for the cops, well done people....

Oh and I am glad I don't live in Centurion... Dodgy place :D

So what's the answer, do we treat all prisoners like hotel guests? Just because some ANC cronies are gaming the prison system, it doesn't make it right, or entitle everyone to that kind of prison stay.
 
Wonder what it is the current Government is so very, very, very afraid of. Even Cop 1 - Jacky Selebi attended the brief court case and out of character he admitted.

The accused must be given a chance to defend themselves properly, no matter what. They should also not sit in jail longer than they have to. I believe there are political motives for giving these people a hard time. This wouldn't be the first time. I believe there was also a furore about IFP prisoners getting ignored when it came to pardons.

We all know what happens when ANC cadres get incarcerated. Let's not have double standards.

If Yengeni can get a cushy cell because of his hayfever, and Shaik can have privileges because he has a high blood pressure, then surely one of these guys can be treated properly if he has diabetes?

After all, Shaik and Yengeni have been tried and convicted. This lot have not!

Now I understand why they escaped. I would probably have done the same.
 
Rules for escapees:

1. Stay clear of urban areas. At least for couple of years. 3 years should do.
2. Head for farms. Mountainous farms should do. Find a cave and stay.
3. Move out at night. Steal food from roadside dealers.
4. Steal clothes from washinglines.
5. Get a TV and a RADIO.
6. Get comfy with loads of books. These will be your friends for years!
7. If you can skip the country, do so, but choose countries with no extradition treaties with South Africa.
8. An easy way to do this is to work on overseas cargo carriers or something to that effect. I am sure Japanese Whaling boats are always looking for somebody willing to risk a Greenpeace incident.
 
Lol, I don't think Yengeni would've been doff enough to stay in the country this long if he tried to escape.

these guys were arrested in 2002....it's now 2007....how long until the verdict? And if they are found not guilty, having spent 5 years in custody?
