I have a kettle dedicated to egg-boiling. Put 4 eggs in it, hit boil (which lasts 2 minutes), hit boil again, let them sit for 3 more minutes, and voila... perfect eggs.

There should be legislation prohibiting husbands/partners/SOs from buying "useful" gifts.

By its very nature, gifts should be extravagant and impractical, but beautiful to look at :)

I speak as a woman, peder.

However, I am sure a lot of women would share your opinion. Just not me :)

ja until you buy a house together and then try and split lol...

You miss the point. Two friends can also buy a property together. It has nothing to do with marital status. Should the friends part ways or have a fight, the effect is the same.

SA law does not recognise common law marriages.

but what do you do in such a situation? if you bought a house together?
I actually didn't know that thought if you lived together for 5 years it was like marriage...

It depends on what your agreement was when you bought the house and in whose name the property is registered.

Are the two of you responsible for 50/50 payment of the bond? If yes, the house must be sold and the profits - if any - split.

If your agreement was that one person alone owns and pays the house, the other one has no right to it.

In SA Law, you can live together for 100 years and the law stil does not recnogise it as marriage. NOTE: There is a Draft Bill on Domestic Partnerships out for comments and if/when this is enacted as law, it would address the issue of the legal recognition of the relationship of people who live together without being legally married.
