I wonder what other powerful brand in the world would be willing to change their name after over 100 years of creating that brand which is now known around the world?!?

I still cannot work out why the Springbok is regarded as a symbol of oppression and apartheid? It was first introduced in 1906... now I was under he impression that apartheid came into force in 1948.... how do the two tie up? I know they say that blacks were not allowed to become Springboks, but they were also not allowed to be employed in a lot of those companies mentioned earlier so should they also change their names? And besides I always wonder why Errol Tobias always gets so conveniently forgotten when black Springboks are spoken about. He played for the Springboks in 1981... long before the end of apartheid!

No, I always express my opinion and my opinion on name changing is very different to my "usual" opinion! 
Well put Lance. Apartheid is dead, but some people will never allow us to forget it, regardless of how much animosity it causes. I wish the black government would realize that the whites are an integral part of this country’s success and that this payback mentality will only cause everyone to suffer.
Just watched the news on etv and i see that they say the springbok emblem will be scrapped within a months timeand replaced with a fscking protea!

What is pathetic is that this time they are appear to be using the argument that they want all the sports to be united under one symbol! Now any marketer with half a brain cell, never mind half a brain, would realise that you should choose the strongest brand you have at your disposal. Now what would that be in the field of sports, the Protea or the Springbok? I don't think it'll take many guesses as to which brand is better known around the world and associated with SA sport! MORONS!
Also let's use examples from around the world... hmm... who should we choose, perhaps the best rugby team in the world! NZ rugby team is called the All Blacks, the cricket team the Black Caps... they are quite successful with using two names! IDIOTS!

This whole episode stinks - if the Bok emblem must go replace it with a skunk.
Can anyone provide me with a logical explanation as to how unifying the protea as a national emblem for all sports in this country is supposed to help to unify the people? I am so absolutely disgusted by this - it really is just an abuse of power, and not at all beneficial in any way.
I am getting pissed off just typing this out. I really hope somebody beats a little common sense into this transformation committee because they don't appear to be able to come up with any on their own. I really hope this doesnt go through.
I am starting to think that a lot of what the government does these days is in fact done to piss off the white man and incite something. It is becoming more and more apparent to me every day. I honestly believe that they want a full blown reverse apartheid. Nothing that comes out of their mouths, from their desks or conjured up in their pea-sized brains ever seems to be for the benefit of all South Africans. Why don't they just scrap rugby altogether? After all, it too was played during apartheid. Heck, so was soccer and nearly every other sport. Scrap em all. Hell, politics was practised during apartheid, scrap that too. Laws existed so scrap them as well. People were sent to prison, so get rid of prisons. Fsck these lunatics are making me angrier every day, but somehow I feel that I am playing right into their hands...

Unfortunately being white we will do nothing about it but bitch... so although they are inciting us there will be no consequences.... try and organise for all those opposed to the scrapping of the emblem to boycott an international and see how much success you have. We cannot mobilise ourselves...

I think if they really do scrap the emblem then you might just see the mobilization happening....
Lance, the problem is that whoever starts a petition to oppose this is immediately branded as a racist, and then the whole argument will then be focused on the bloody racist white that wants to oppose unification, instead of addressing the real problem of the name change.
Nice to have you on our side here. I for one will gladly partake in any civilized action to show my support for a heritage that I am proud of. Heck, the boks stood side by side with Madiba in his Springbok jersey to help unite the country in 1995 - and they did exactly that. I was inspired by that and still am to this day. To change it would be a slap in the face to Madiba, the ANC who actually fought in the struggle and saw rugby and the springbok as a unifying tool and to all South Africans for that matter.
The springbok symbolizes more than these idiots realise. And it is in fact symbolic for the right reasons. Getting rid of the old flag I had no issue with. Getting rid of street names which were insulting to anyone who opposed apartheid I had no issue with. Changing a symbol of unity and pride amongst all South Africans: now that I have a major problem with and will gladly do what I can to mobilize and motivate fellow South Africans, regardless of race, to take civilized action against this.

Yip, you are right... and that is why starting the mobilization on an anonymous forum such as this one and via word of mouth would hopefully get the job done! I wonder how the boycotting of one international will affect the SARU? And imagine the international publicity when the game is played in front of an empty stadium....
And if the truth were to be told I am sure many international rugby fans would understand the fans position on the matter. Unless they get fed propaganda about how the emblem was racist and had to go!
There are other ways to get around the race angle. Most politicians don't bother doing this in SA yet one must be able to view the argument or at least expect arguments based on the wording of things. Once you understand this, you can write a petition, website or email that can and should be recognised as race-neutral, regardless of how it is spun by the government.
I highly doubt that anyone who opposes the removal of the Springbok emblem does so for a racist reason at all. In fact I can't even think of one...
