Bok emblem up for discussion? (again)

Fsck it! We are going to mobilise and organise a boycott if this legislation gets passed! I am going to do my bit and I hope others will join in. All we need is one empty stadium after the ruling (if it happens) to make a statement but if this can happen all around the country for a few months then all the better... also at all domestic matches people should wave Springbok flags.... in fact it is short notice but an attempt should be made to do this for the Currie Cup final! How does one get this through to all the fans in just over a week? Radio only I suppose and they are bloody SABC controlled to in the government's back pocket... I wonder if East Coast Radio will buy in....?

And if the truth were to be told I am sure many international rugby fans would understand the fans position on the matter. Unless they get fed propaganda about how the emblem was racist and had to go!

I agree, hit them where it hurts, their pockets. And this is NOT a racist issue, like DJK sais the Springbok did more for unification amongst South Africans than any other brand ever, it just makes no sense, this is just to provoke people and to win votes, the t-shirts must not be working so well anymore.

And I personally know of a stack of black young rugby players who play at my local club who would eagerly put their name on the petition and join any boycotts. This would not be based on race at all. A petition is a great thing for awareness but you also need to hit SARU in the pocket and empty a stadium...

You need the exposure first, but yes, lets hit them where it hurts financially. That way, the sponsors like Sasol might step in as well...
 
AS PER DJK's instructions: I couldn't care less what the springbok emblem looks like. Why do people make such a fuss about it?

It only means nothing to you, we are tolerant about you being gay, why can you not also exhibit some tolerance? It’s not just about the Springbok name and emblem, it’s more a question of the straw that broke camels back, why is there the need to eradicate everything old, not all symbols are racist or related to apartheid.
 
Just change it and get it over with. I am suffering resistance fatigue. If they want the sport, they can have it. I will turn my sporting requirements online if this happens and for the hell of it turn to supporting the American rugby team. ;)

Even if I was gay (which i'm not), why would you have to exert any tolerance?

Don't give up. This is the reason we land up in this situation we find ourselves in. Rather make a difference and stand up for something that means something to you. Provide your support, expertise, time, or even just your signature to a cause you feel so strongly about. Come now antowan - support the cause...

Pooky, you are probably a little too youg to grasp exactly wht that symbol means to many of us who experienced and stood against apartheid. It was the first time that our nation stood proudly together and let bygones be bygones. It was a moment that I will never forget and one that I cherish. It means a lot of different things to many people, but none of them are negative IMO.

In 1995, we stood together as a nation and embraced each other for who we are: South Africans - regardless of race and regardless of our tarnished past. We were, in the eyes of the rest of the world, a true rainbow nation.

In 2007, we did exactly the same. Whilst you might feel that the springbok emblem was not responsible for any of this, and this might be true, it symbolizes what many South Africans felt on those special days, and is a memory I for one do not want to lose...

You not? Well sorry then, consider this a public apology, I made the deduction from what I read on the forum, it was not meant to be sarcastic or a personal attack. So people should not be tolerant towards others that are not necessarily of the same sexual orientation as them? Interesting view you have there...(Back to rugby) I for one will try and do something about it, even if it only shows that the ANC’s insistence on change is not always in line with public opinion.

We also don't need a national flag, but we have one nonetheless, and it means a helluva lot to many South Africans...
 
Don’t take emblems so lightly, say what you want about the “old” flag and for what it stood, but a lot of people died for that emblem, on both sides of the argument, and that is no small thing.

I was asking DJK why he should have to 'tolerate" gay people, as in, why should he not treat them as another forumite and not as a "gay" person.
