A friend of mine is in an old age home. They have been told that all aerials/dishes are being taken down & that they need to link their TV's to the homes WiFi. I am going to get her a TV streaming box & load her DSTV onto that. However, the wifi signal is appalling in her room! It is hard enough having a WhatsApp chat with her so heaven only knows what streaming TV will be like. Other residents that have gone this route have constant buffering issues. I can't get answers from the home as to what their intentions are with regards to increasing signal strength, etc or when it will be done. She can't afford to take out an LTE contract so has to rely on the homes internet. I am desperately looking for any suggestions on what I could get to try and boost the signal in her room. Would be so grateful if any advice as I basically have no idea what I am doing

Possibly look at this

Check this out on takealot: TP-Link TL-RE455 AC1750 Wireless Range Extender Plug

You definitely want to stay away from the 2.4gHz band as im sure its flooded in the old age home, could explain why others are struggling.

What internet does she use? Sounds like ADSL?

I am going to the home next week to get more of an idea on the whole set up. Not sure what the home has but pretty sure it would be fibre to their router but then all residents have to connect to that via wifi. The speeds & signal strength are already shocking low. They have really not thought this through at all - 200+ people connecting their tv's to DSTV, Netflix, etc & most of them have their TV's on all day as they can't do anything else but watch TV!!!

friend don't let friends use range extenders - please use a mesh system of the WiFI access points instead - range extenders just add more wifi interference

A basic system like the E4 can be using in a large house BUT for 200 residents you will need a professionally setup UniFi WiFi APs every 4 rooms or so
