Boot Camp - Definitely Beta software

Damn!

Decided to do the Boot Camp thing this morning ... workaround this, workaround that (which I haven't even gotten to) :(

Fired up Boot Camp assistant to create a 5Gb partition on my internal drive ... Comes back with an error that it can't partition the drive, I must use Disk utility to Repair the drive. Run the validation through Disk Utility to try and see what's potting ... Spews out errors, but the repair button stays greyed out ...

Now what?

EDIT: The error already occurs during the Verification stage:

Sorry my bad. I was thinking they did releases like they did in OS world. That if they released a version 1.2 beta, version 1.1 would have been a stable release. Normally beta testing with no stable releases is 0.x.

You have to boot with your Mac OS installation disk and then you can repair the disk with Disk Utility, or use Apple jack. Then start again.

You cant repair the disk while the OS is running, you have to be in "DOS" mode.

Damn - I have set the weekend aside for that config - don't tell me I'm going to have trouble....!

I didnt have a smidgen of trouble with bootcamp - guess it's the luck of the draw.
 
Update: Ok, so I haven't tried partitioning my internal again ... Managed to manipulate my XP SP2 CD to make it possible to install XP on an External USB Drive. Busy booting up from the install CD now to see what happens :rolleyes:

EDIT: BTW adsl3g, if you are planning on installing bootcamp on an external, I can send you the edited files for the XP ISO :D

Seriously dude, I dont know why you're still messing around with Windows, I hate:sick: using it these days and if I really have to use it it's only fer games.:p

Thanks LM, I just installed a 160gb drive in my Macbook and did a clean install (cloning to USB2 takes forever). I will try the bootcamp thing and give it around 20gig - should be enough for office and frontpage. Then some stupid games and I'm done.
Macbook purring with 160gb now - nice to have 110gb free instead of 30gb.
Also installed the existing 80gb into an external case (usb powered) and now have loads of free space.

ERm, Seriously dude :p, because I work in a M$ Business Solution environment, so I have to have a flavour of Windows running somewhere
