After an hour you wont even care about the effects any more, it's so minuscule in the greater scheme of things. You'll end up far more focused on actually playing to care about such a small thing. I find it so silly to write the game off because you don't get effect A or B, an effect that makes no difference to your enjoyment of the game whatsoever.

The fact of the matter is that the game developer chose to make the game look better using an nvidia graphics card. The physX part of it can easily be emulated if necessary.

I'll be cancelling my pre-order as a matter of principle. As I said as well, this will be no major loss for me as I have too many games to play right now anyway.

Oh, cool I'll just cancel my pre-order then. It's enough I have to put up with an "Nvidia, the way its meant to be played" splash screen every game I play but now they deliberately make the game look worse on a different GPU and the game developer actually agrees to it?
They dont nerf it for other cards, other cards just dont have the software resources that you get with Nvidia. IE, Nvidia developed software that you can do some things better. People who own Nvidia cards get this boost. People who dont need to ask why their driver developers are so lazy and not producing the same infrastructures.

lol really? Is this such a big deal?
Looking at the steam stats: http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey
It's a 46 to 35% split in favour of nVidia

This feature is what helps sells the cards and hence may help sell the game. If the developers want to use it let them! Why should they start from scratch on a physics engine?

If you with your AMD card feel left out, tough... It's like complaining about not being able to play gears of war on PS3... That's life, live with it.

Physx is owned by Nvidia. Any other card manufacturer would get their pants sued off if they did include Physx routines in their drivers. There are other manufacturer independent physics engines that kick PhysX arse. Choosing PhysX over open technology is a financial transaction - plain and simple.

Precisely what I've gathered and that's why I've cancelled my pre-order. nakedpeanut, your being ignorant and your comparison is totally off base.

It's a silly argument, but I will be enjoying the game on my Radeon 7850 as much as the guy with his 680. :/

How am I being ignorant? Please do explain?

Did I not just point to the fact that it is for financial reasons? I admit that and it's smart business. If you as a consumer get all upset, vote with your wallet and don't buy it..

Plain and simple.

Plain and simple.

Because your analogy was completely incorrect.

Yes, I said I wasn't going to buy it.

The only difference will be some physics effects which don't even change gameplay. Also if it's the same video I saw you'll have to be blind not to notice how they changed the texture quality for the shots without PhysX which is just blatant propaganda.

Physics in games won't start to really make a difference until they start using an open API, because until then some hardware/people won't be able to run the physics which means they will have to have a version of the game without those effect which means much more work for limited results.

Also physics in games won't really progress until everyone is on the same page using physics which works on all hardware.

It won't change gameplay but the effects look much better. Blowing up stuff and throwing grenades is what people do 90% of the time.

If gameplay was the only factor to consider when buying a game, people would stick to consoles and play games with old Half-Life type graphics.

Someone said earlier here that there are better physics models systems out there, more/sauce info please? (coming from a grumpyguts stuck with an ATi-equipped laptop...) ...oh how the promise of MXM turned out to be such a let-down.

thats why i went ATI , because i used a tech in my old gfx card like only once. So whats the point in paying more for upgrades if its not used ?

its like paying for a ferrari that can fly but you are scared of heights ?
so pay cheaper for a ferrari that not only looks cooler in red and doesn't fly but its half as cheap and buy some other stuff with extra cash.

now im definitely going to try before i buy this game ... UGH.

This game is really going to be epic. I am glad I have a nvidia 680m card though :)

The whole licensing thing is as unfair as most games releasing to Windows only.
Nvidia should just start a console...

Anyway,my brother has Nvidia so...

How many people actually notice all that crap when they are busy playing? And if you do, how long before the novelty wears off? And if it doesn't, does it help you get laid?

To be honest I've never played a game that used physx... had my card since the day it was launched.
