Hi

How do the Bose Quiet Comfort 45 compare to the Beats Studio 3? In SA the pricing is quite similar and reviewed are somewhat mixed.

Rtings.com breaks it down into nice categories, pick which attributes you value more:

Had three pairs of different beats over the years, they all broke just as warranty ended. Won’t touch beats ever!

For both you are paying for a brand name and not getting the highest quality headphones
If you truly want good headphones Audio-Technica is the best bang for buck brand.
Alternatively a lot of people swear by Sennheiser
If you care about brands, then beats is popular with the kids right now, isn't it?

I thought beats were "so last 5 years ago"?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I've always bought stuff based on performance and quality.
I just see a lot of Bose and Beats product placements.
Beats especially with younger generation stuff.

We got top of the line R5k Bose headphones at work and they are pathetic in comparison to my Audio-Technica ATH-M50 (not to mention some of my higher quality headphones)
I use it on the plane now for noise cancelling, rocks for that, but wow the audio quality is bad haha.

I won a pair of Beats Solo 3 a good few years ago, and I love them. Sound is good (I'm not an audiophile) and they are still going strong.

If I was buying a pair I'd probably look at a different brand as Beats pricing is mostly brand inflated. But I like my headphones

It's either Bose/Sony but as others have mentioned there's better value elsewhere.

Which audio Technica or Sennheiser option will be equivalent to the Bose Quiet Comfort 45? Or which other options would you recommend?

It needs to have decent calling ability as well

They worth the money?

Seen the wh-1000xm4 on sale for R 4000 - R 4500, maybe if you get a Black Friday deal somewhere it might be worthwhile if you are a major audiophile or use them for hours daily.

For the current price of XM4, 100%. Cheaper than the Beats and the QC45 on takealot.
QC45 has "better" ratings on rtings.com for what it's worth

I use my XM3's daily. They are super comfortable, and have great ANC. I assume the ANC on XM4 and XM5 is even better, and they support multi paring (or whatever it is called), which my XM3's dont

cannot say I am a fan of how XM5 looks however

Pretty much sums up my verdict too.
A lot of these BT headphones are not very good audio quality.
They are selling you a popular product, packed with "features", not just headphones.
I've personally tried a few and the difference is actually quite stark that I was surprised.
For example comparing my M50s to my more expensive studio monitors the difference is very subtle.
But going from a lot of the Bose/Sony/Beats you can immediately hear the difference

If you want audio quality, stick to the brands used in recording studios.
Then again, they don't use wireless in those situations, so what to do.
