Hey guys.......so I'm in the market for a new gfx card. The gigabyte gtx 460 1gig OC is what I'm really wanting. Now....I have a i3 530 with 4 gigs ddr3 1333, will the performance be decent or will the processor bottleneck the system?

yep.

but you will still get good performance though - just not at "maximum badboy2 potential"

should be fine - the GPU will process most of that data while in games anyways.

At the moment I have a 5570 which is nowhere near par. I've overclocked the cpu to 3ghz with no temp problems.............but would like to get more put of it without stability problems.

At 3GHz there should be few situations where bottlenecking will be a prob. Ur good to go! :)

im sorry, but what are you guys smoking? :p

you seriaaaaasly think that an i3 is not going to limit a gtx 460 :wtf:

ive been through this whole process (at GREAT length) a while back... dont fool yourself, CPU makes a massive difference to your gfx performance!!!!

an i3 will bring this gfx to a grinding halt...

Hey, don't look at me, i said "Yep." didn't I? :o

He's just not going to get "Maximum Potential" (meme joke)

What most of them are saying is it's not going to completely choke his system, it will just not run at optimum performance, thats all.

:D

im a bit out out of the loop with these new intel cpus... but i DO know that the i3 is a baby... think the i5 is too actually tbh :)

where does this i3 compared to the AMD 965 Phenom 2 Black Edition ???

A grinding halt is a "small" exaggeration. A dual core with an additional 2 threads will not bottleneck the system. Many PC sites confirm this with their budget PC builds which have dual core CPUs coupled with the GTX460.

YES, YES YOU ARE :D

you get i3's that are faster than i5's, and i5's that are faster than i7's - I'm even guessing you get i3's that are faster than i7's

ok maybe a small one, but I just dont agree with the whole thing

his cpu is SLOWER than mine... and he wants to get a gfx card that is FASTER than mine. If Im being bottlenecked then he is going to have it even worse... eish

Im not saying that his PC is gonna run k@k :) , but just dont expect anywhere near true performance.

A 3.0GHz i3 is not going to bring a gtx460 to a grinding halt. You're exaggerating. Plus he can buy a TX3 for R200 and OC to round 4GHz.

yes I did admit to exaggerating... see previous post!

but this cpu will limit his gfx card

You will get bottlenecked in some games, especially on Quad-hungry games like BF:BC2.

To the degree that it makes the card not a worthwhile upgrade? No.

Damn guys. Lol. All are acting as if my pc is on par with a 486. I have been thinking of a coolermaster v8 and OC that thing as far as possible. But as stated......at 3-3.5ghz is not going to cripple the system. But thanks to all.....I knew I wouldn't get the most out of the card........but damn.

just want you to be aware mate. I went through an extremely lengthy process (with the help of Brawler, Cerebus and Killa etc etc) and the results were facinatiing! The thread turned into quite a monster, but I promise you its worth reading from start to finish!

dont be fooled by the topic name, I change CPU's like two thirds way through! lol
