hi

I run a native res of 1900x1200 and I like eye candy.. lots of it, but I also like a high frame rate :)

I currently have a 4890 and have noticed that the later comes are not as smooth as Im used to.. yes yes I know Im full of ****

Would a 5850 be a worthwhile jump? And would my CPU be a bottleneck?

Many thanks

I doubt your cpu would bottleneck - but what do you mean by later comes?

sorry that was supposed to be games, dont know how the hell I came up with comes

ok, so no cpu bottleneck... but what about a performance boost? worthwhile?

Which games specifically are struggling to run? Performance boost would be worthwhile of course - 5850 is 5-10% faster than a 285 whereas 4890 is around about equal to a 275. No question about it.

Can OC the 4890 to beat/be on par with the GTX285.

A 5850 would be a good upgrade though and i don't think your Q9550 will bottleneck

Silverlight, just looking at your sig now..

Sorry Im a bit of a noob at PhysX, I thought it was Nvidia chipsets only... but your mobo has a Intel P55 so im confused, how can you use a 8600GT with your 4890

10/10 confused :(

There are workarounds - not strictly permissible but not that difficult.

am I going to see a difference in these two cards? I like Sapphire, and they have a toxic and a game edition. one is core/memory : 725/4000mhz and the other is core/memory : 765/4500mhz

worth it?

Dude the 5850 is miles ahead of the 4890 not sure where 5-10% comes from to be honest. Seems to me like 20-35% is more likely than 5-10% judging by this review

Some games the 5850 is 30FPS better than the 4890. The 5850 is far far faster. If you like eye candy though i would wait for the 26th of march to see if nvidia will drop amd's pricing. DX 11 is pretty :D. Might be able to get a 5870 for like 2.5k if nvidia brings out a good product.

Fair enough yeah :)

Anyways I can't tell you which version to go for - the faster one is generally always better, you know. Just depends if you feel like you can justify the extra amount of money.

Dude I bought the 5850 Black Edition and I can say that it's the best decision in terms of upgrading in a long time. Before that I had a 4870 but this is just way past that, I can't even begin to describe.

And dude, DX11. I've only had one DX11 game so far but I can say that it's awesome. There's no comparison between DX9 and DX11 (DX10 doesn't count, it was a fail). DX11 is just amazing and upgrading to a DX11 card is worth every cent.

Will be a nice jump, but 5870 will be nicer..

Why don't you try reading the thread before posting. The dude said 5-10% faster than the 285.

Can I spam this thread with my own Q? Don't feel like starting a new thread....

Am looking to upgrade to something in the 2k region (2ndhand) - would you go 4890 or 275? Having a hard time deciding which is faster based on benchies - seems to be tit for tat and price is equivalent as well.

275 is what i would take. Physics as well. Why are you paying 2k for a second 4890 or 275 though? You can buy a new one for that price.

The 4890 rather. Can be overclocked to beat a 285.

well Im selling mine... (hence the thread)

I placed an ad this morning here on mybb and got a couple of bites! :)

but for under 1800... eish, that is low
