Boxing

Not sure I understand this. Usyk is a proper fighter with decent accuracy, high work rate and solid footwork.
I mean the division is in bad shape because there aren't many contenders. Usyk is just above average and so are the majority of the contenders. But we haven't had great heavyweights for a long time now.

Great fight, amazing accomplishment by Usyk. Very few cruiserweight champs jumped to heavy and got this high as the heavyweight division weight range is just so vast compared to Cruiser. Have not seen anything like this since Evander Hollyfield. Amazing work. Decent fight by Fury too, he was just up against a better opponent on the day but he is still an amazing champ.

I am feel. I am very feel.

Usky is P4P the best boxer in the world. Hes done what only one other boxer in history managed to achieve and that was back when there were only 3 belts to win.

I had him taking rounds 1 and 2, 3 for fury, then very close rounds that you could have given to fury up until halfway into the 7th... from then on, All usyk.

And lets be real... its a TKO in the 9th.

The fix was in. they were looking for a draw but the KD in the 9th spoilt that party.
A draw makes the rematch more marketable

tbh. Usyk should do a Khabib and go out on top.

While a huge Usyk fan I would not say he is the best in the world. He is the best in the heavy divisions sure but compare him to someone like Naoya Inoue, who has conquered 4 weight divisions and is unified champ too. His fights are also nowhere near as close as this last match with Fury. He is dominant to the point of being Peerless. There are others in the middle and lower weight divisions who are p4p better and with better records. Those divisions just don't get the attention the heavyweight division gets from the media. Shrink Usyk down to Super Bantam somehow and he gets KO'd by Inoue in my books.

Fair point i guess. P4P is and always will be subjective. That said, Usyks total resume is a compelling case, Olympic gold, world champ, golden gloves, undisputed crusiserweight plus the Ali trophy, and to cap it off undisputed HW.

He beat all the guys that beat the guys... lineal in both weight classes one could argue.

I had Inoue P4P #1 after his last win for sure. but Usyk makes a strong case based on the above.

U think Inoue would beat prime lomachenko at featherweight?
rewatch his fights at featherweight and jr lightweight, hes esentially a shrunk down Usyk (oversimplification maybe, but as accurate as you can get) . I reckon he has a good chance of a tko. Styles do make fights after all.

Can't comment on Lomenchenko. Did not follow him. And I hear you. It is subjective. There is a compelling argument for Usyk. I just still rate Inoue a little higher due to him conquering 4 divisions. That being said with how big Fury is relative to Cruiser, Usyk has probably gone higher in terms of size difference than Inoue so perhaps. Heavy is just so open ended and in boxing size counts. I know there are already a lot of weight divisions but it feels like there should be one more to roughly halve heavyweight. I am a fan of this proposed bridgerweight division. A guy like Kevin Lerena could have had a real shot at that slot where he just can't cut it at heavy.

HW today holds quite a few giants when compared to the HW's of yesteryear who averaged arround 220 or so.

There was talk of having a super HW division for over 240/250 lbs, but it was squashed.

You need to check lomachenko out.

His father trained Usyk since amature days and they both have the same style - I like to think of it as a refined combo of jeet kune do (right handed southpaws), and the original peek-a-boo (aggressive counterpunching). Loma had basically no equal at both featherweight and jr lightweight. to the point that no one would fight him and he had to go up to 135. not as many finishes there and hes gotten older. but the level of schooling hes put on guys who are effectively welterweights when they step into the ring...

Although Usyk, due to his size cant do exactly what Loma can, If he was shrunk down he would have a whole lot more to offer IMO.

saw this...

boxing doing boxing things... we cant have nice things

This is when I say "who cares about the IBO, WBA, WBO, IBF, FFB, WMC....
Usyk is champ, end of.

october was always going to be too soon.

Lets wait and see... hopefully no shenanigans again from fury.

TBH, i dont think we need to see a rematch.

on a side note i have to give it up to that turkey on stick guy... hes putting on fights that boxing fans wanna see

This weekends card doesnt look bad at all... I'll probably goto orlando and watch the fights afterwards (who still stays up late?)

Wilder vs Zhang should be a banger! two big hitters

we ALMOST had bivol vs beterbiev (im sure we may still see it)
