Johannesburg - A North West school teacher has been charged with assault after allegedly hitting a 9-year-old pupil for playing with a DA poster, according to Wednesday's edition of the New Age newspaper.

Ruby Nkobane appeared in the Bloemhof Magistrate's Court on Monday and was released on bail of R1 000.

A Grade 1 pupil and some of his friends at a primary school in Boitumelong were apparently holding a Democratic Alliance poster and shouting: "We will vote for the DA", on the playground on Monday, May 16, two days before the local government elections.

Nkobane walked over and allegedly knocked the boy to the ground, leaving him with a cut lip and swollen eye.

A passer-by took him to a local clinic.

That article is one big piece of BS. No way a Grade 1 black student who does not understand politics or anything will walk around and say he will vote DA, whilst his parents and friends' parents are most propably ANC supporters. Some of the other kids would've knocked him out first. Please.

Well where he comes from, his parents may not have enrolled him at the correct age. No doubt he wasn't as lucky as you were as a kid growing up to have educational videos, television, toys and parents well educated enough to help him develope his academic skills.

I find it disturbing that you didn't factor in all of that before you made a comment that ignorant.

You'd think! but coincidently, i just read a grade 2's "letter to a penpal" excercise, (my fiance is a Grd 2 Teacher) where this child says his singing heros are Michael Jackson, and JACOB ZUMA!!, and how he loves the anc.......
