Boy dies after swallowing firework: Report

sheesh this is hectic. sad man. fireworks can be so much fun, yet cause so much pain and destruction as well

He presumably died of poisoning and not because of a fountain of sparks.

ok, my comment is not about the poison, mine is about how it must feel to have a fountain of sparks going off in your stomach...

Poor child. Kids do very strange things. I drank Sunlight Liquid when I was little once and used to eat spiders (luckly they were not of the poisonous variety) as a matter of habit.

Unfortunately for this boy this was a curious exploration that he will not recover from :-(

shame man, this firework is called twigbang, its brightly coloured red and green matchstick like strips that you need to rub into a rough surface like concrete and it ignites and sparks. When it comes to the last lil bit, it will often go airborn and shoot in random directions.

A six-year-old boy died in Durban after swallowing a firework during the Diwali festival, The Star reported on Thursday.

Tyreece Jordan Naicker swallowed the firework on Sunday morning but only told his mother later that day.

She made him regurgitate and found a piece of the firework. He was rushed to hospital where he later died, the newspaper reported.

The boy's uncle, Ronnie Naicker, said he was not certain what the firework was called and how much he had swallowed.

The tip of the firework has to be rubbed on the floor to ignite, in a similar way to striking a match. The firework lets off a fountain of sparks.

Naicker told the newspaper that the boy, who attended primary school, was his normal self the entire Sunday evening but took a bad turn on Monday.

Wow, who knew gunpowder and stuff like that was poisonous to the extent of death.

I decided to start smoking at the age of 5.
Got hold of those candy cigarettes & fired up.
Large blob of burning sugar melted & dropped onto a finger, and carried on burning - to this day I still have the scar.

Oh, I munched on ants !

it's not really the gunpowder, it's the Nitroglycerin. Nitroglycerin is a vaso-dilator and has a massive effect on blood pressure.

I find it odd that she tried to make him regurgitate it instead of, you know, rushing him to straight to the hospital where they would've, at least, pumped his stomach...

Shame... horrible story :(

But again, points to why children should always be supervised around fireworks...

I wonder if that is what killed him ?

I know that a lot of things are worse coming back up then going down.

Another nail in the coffin that being gay is only nature. :p
