So, The long weekend in August I would like to take my boys out and away from the house.

But I have no idea where to go or what to do,

We live in JHB,
I dont mind driving and if we do the 2am drive, they will sleep most of the way if we had to hit DBN or something,

Boys are 14 and 11,
Theres no 'bucketlist' type thing that they want to do, they enjoy pretty much anything. We are a semi active family, so hikes etc could work

Id like to do something at the coast, They have only been to the ocean once and that was around 7 years ago. But that can also be scheduled for another time if something else thats more enjoyable pops up.

Anyone got suggestions?

A long weekend at the coast is pretty time-limited if you're not flying down.

Some of the other stuff around (game drives at local reserves like Dinokeng, or a trip to Harties etc) will be pretty freezing right now.

Only 3 days holiday though and if you go to durban then about 7 hours drive each way, including stops. You really like this much driving ? :)

Good luck.

Hit a trip to Sun City

This is how you get jacked/kidnapped or spiked..

Don't drive at night, and especially with kids in the car, unless it is a life or death situation.

In terms of your trip, considering drive-time, go to the Lowveld, the drive is shorter and weather is pretty decent. Alternatively, embrace the cold and go to Clarens, hike a bit there and enjoy the town and surrounding area's vibe in winter.

Fair enough. Ages 11 & 14 though - pretty sure they would have specific ideas and have expressed to you already ? Our 7 year old son is generally good at veteoing all our ideas so there is that of course.

Beach in August, the only place I would think of would be northern KZN where you might get swimming weather. So St Lucia.

there is a lady on tiktok ..something sky or something

she swims in CPT water with a bikini during mid winter

Yes, but presumably marbro is going on holiday to enjoy himself!

Drive to Drakensberg for camping & hiking?
Any decent game farms close by?

(edit: oh I see only long weekend. might not be lus for a 4+ hr drive)
