Planning to have a braai during the easter weekend. I'm doing it by myself and would like to marinade it properly.

I've been to some braais before and liked the sweet mildly spicy taste the meat had however most people I know just give it a spicy taste which is bland.

What can I use to get a proper a marinade going and leave overnight to soak in?

/inb4 just use salt and pepper

I prefer the Castle marinades these days...

Braai-ing a the moment, I sprinkled some Portuguese Chicken spice over the meat (gives a smokey taste) then proceeded with the Jimmy Sauce.

Marinades don't really penetrate much. Make sure you salt the meat well in advance, and do a post-marinade if you want.

I typically use some olive oil and a little lemon juice, with some salt, pepper and finely chopped chillies. I generally don't do the overnight marinade but you can do it with the above.

Spur BBQ and Jimmys

I ate Sosaties up north and they were really good.

This sounds like the taste I'm going for. I can find the Spur bbq. Is the name of the other sauce just Jimmy?

Jimmy's Steakhouse Sauce.

I at the moment only use 3 sauces

Spur BBC
Jimmys -that's it
Lappies braai sauce sticky ribs

I'll mix up the Spur and Jimmy's and give it a go. I'm slow braai'ing the meat.

I've seen people braai meat for no more than 20 minutes and it comes out perfect.
I wonder what the trick is.

Depends on a lot. What cut of meat, how matured it was, how it's prepared and what method you're using to cook it.
