Braai

So as braaishop is "free" advertising here. Does mybroadband members get a special discount on products? :P

You will have noticed that we have offered advice pointing to other companies too. We are here for advice purposes only. In fact I did try to remove a previous response referring to our site but to no avail. We are all braai lovers and that is the point of this thread.

Can you do a wood fire in a kettle braai? I do not see why not as I am sure charcoal might actually burn hotter than a fire, or at least it feels like it sometimes.

I use wood to flame the charcoal. Granted I don't have a name brand weber.

But can you use just wood? I miss using wood, but have never used wood in a kettle braai. I only used wood in brick built braai; or those home made ones cut from a drum. Will a wood fire damage a kettle braai do you think?

It's surely one and the same? Fire and coals. My bush baby hasn't complained. Bit I did put sand at the bottom of mine at the beginning. I think.

I guess. I am just worried that the flames might damage the the braai seeing that charcoal does not have flames really. Suppose only one way to find out :)

Wood is fine, problem is sometimes the Brannewyn kicks in and a bag or two of wood get thrown into the kettle. I use wood in my Weber without a problem *moderation is key*.

We've seen a couple of Weber's where the handles AND EVEN the porcelain coating has been melted off by an over-zealous wood fire. Pretty much the end of that one.

I will try and control myself. A fire is much more enjoyable to sit around and socialize. Charcoal is terribly boring.

Still haven't found one...

lussing for braai. :p

LOL @Flip-Flop, inclined to agree 100%. Have contacted Fuego in the UK to ask if we can get this in, immediate issue may be Propane UK vs LPG SA, but let's see. I reckon it would do well here with the apartment-dwellers. Let you know

Awesome, thanks.

Had a great braai for lunch.

Nice one thick inch cut porterhouse steak. I pre-seasoned the steak with salt, pepper, english mustard powder and italian herbs (fresh herb garden still in progress). Braai'd on a nice and hot coal fire (prefer wood, wifey forced me to use coals :( I braaid the steaks to a mid-rare. It was fantastic.

Love mustard steak but don't see it often on menus. Especially the mustard crusted seed versions. Have tried to make it myself but it was an epic fail. Will try mustard powder next time, thanks

What you can also try is a mustard rub. Try and seal off your meat on both sides. Then use a mustard, like german mustard, or english mustard made into a paste with a little bit of water. Then rub the paste/rub into your steak.
