As the title reads. I just purchased the mac mini and finally set it up today. Everything went well except for two major problems I am facing.

1) the HDD continuously makes a click -click sound every 1-2 seconds, it is very loud (much louder than normal HDD sounds). I am not sure what to do about it? Either I take the mac mini back in or I just leave it as I am planing on installing a SSD into it in the next couple of days and then using the original HDD as an external plugged in with all my music ect - but the problem is if the HDD is faulty then in due time of me using it as an external it might just die! Or is this normal sound to make? A quick search online shows different stories...

2) I have my mini plugged directly to my 24" monitor via HDMI and the quality and colours are terrible (actually hurts my eyes if I stare too long). I have just finished updating to the latest version of OS X and the problem is still there? is there any other way to fix this? I can't use the HDMI to DVI adapter as my monitor only has HDMI and VGA.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

There is something wrong with the mac mini, you can swop it for a new one within 7 days...

Yeah that is what I thought. I just didnt want to go through the hassle of taking it back to be told there is nothing wrong and I just need to make some changes ect...

Take it back and when you have a new one calibrate the monitor.

I read that there was a known problem with the intel display and OX S and that Apple released a fix for it. I just did the update and tried to calibrate again but nothing changed. The colours (especially the whites look very washed out especially in the Dock) and text doesn't seem to be as clear as when I used this monitor on my Windows laptop so not too sure what to do about that???

are you sure you are using optimal resolution?

As far as I know I am - unless there somewhere else I can change it? I have gone through all the settings and even changed resolution to manual and selected 1920x1080p but still no change. It seems to have gotten better after the millionth restart but not sure if it is perfect still. I seem to have sorted out the clicking sound tho (touch wood) but after shutting down and leaving power off for 15 minutes it has gone (read on another forum that that might help) so so far so good. Going to install the SSD tomorrow morning and reinstall OS X and hopefully that will then also sort out the resolution problem.

System Prefs -> Displays -> Select PAL instead of NTSC. See if you get better out of that (I doubt you will)

Still, take it back for that clicking sound.
