So I gave the brave broswer another look today and I must say I am really impressed. It is actually faster than chrome. It's now based on chromium meaning chrome plugins work with Brave Browser. I just had to take it for a spin today and i made the switch. As much as i love Chrome, it was a battery hog and sipped way more energy. On my aged laptop it was more of a thorn and a pain. Fast and easy to to use - thats until Brave copied over even the layout haha

Curious to hear if anyone has tried the new iteration and what they think about it.

It also has a BAT token wallet that has its own uses when one wants to support content makers with crypto. Color me impressed.

I simply use it to block ads. I block ads wherever I can.

Some websites to not open properly though, and have to revert to another browser (can't think of an example now).

Anyone else have it automatically restart every so often to install updates when you try close it, very annoying "feature"?

it's been working like a dream so far that I have ditched chrome altogether and this is my daily driver/browser. However I just noticed that cast feature is not working.

Mine is a memory hog and it crashes sometimes. I also don't like that I don't have complete control over it. Like updates. It updated itself without permission this month.

On the other hand, it's much better than Chrome.

Eh, don't see any reason at all to switch from Chrome. All the extensions I like are available, Google Earth's web app works in it, bookmarks sync effortlessly, it's fast and has a nice modern design etc. No complaints.

Chrome on Android though is ruined by its inability to block ads natively or support an ad blocking extension. Mobile ads are pure cancer. I've found the Kiwi browser to be the best Chromium mobile browser with built-in ad blocking.

Many will agree and also disagree.
Backup your statement re fast and how you compared it to Brave and Firefox.

Chrome can be considered fast on a good system without any comparison. Browsing is as snappy for me as anyplace else I've ever seen. This is with an i7-8700, 16GB memory, 1TB SSD and 6GB GTX 1060. Not sure how much hardware makes a difference, but Chrome is blazing fast for me. My fibre connection also helps.

The only reason I don't like Brave on desktop is due to the user interface. I use Firefox for web compatibility testing and I'm not a fan. Text looks crap compared to Chrome on my display and it definitely doesn't have the same instant snap when loading most websites for me.

Thank you for your feedback, but to subjective. User interface and crappy text.
i7, 16 gb ram and fibre must make you a happy chappie against 4 gb ram.
Chrome to me is ram heavy compared to firefox, while brave puts both to bed. Only looking at speed and nothing else running. But I compare it to what?
Time that MyBB do a more objective test.

I personally took time to investigate the speed and for some reason Brave just seemed snappier and opened sites a tad bit faster. I would just go to a random site and it would open quite quickly. Now Chrome may have been bogged down by old data and cache which I try clean regularly etc for it to be super fast but somehow Brave just seemed faster in the end. I always have alot of tabs open but the system has 16gb ram and SSD and data line is LTE that averages 50Mbps. Slowness was never an issue. Just the CPU usage which meants my fans would spin constantly and laptop would get hot. In this heat!!

What won me over is ram and energy usage. Everyone knows what a memory hog Chrome is but the energy part is what convinced me over. Chrome keeps tabs in memory to open them quicker etc. But on a laptop all you see is Chrome being the culprit to high battery usage. I tested Brave and every time I switched over to other things Brave CPU usage would go down so low almost as if I have suspended it or put it to sleep. I would open activity monitor and other apps would be using more cpu than Brave. Never could say the same before with chrome. Add to the fact that now I can run all my favourite chrome extensions in brave and it was a no brainer to switch over.

I do agree MyBB must do an updated test and see what results they get.

Corrrect, I only use it as my primary browser on my mobile. On the PC it's still Chrome with uBlock.

+1 using brave since day 1. Lovely. Had native web3 wallet support too for easy onboarding.

Will be interesting to see what happens when Chrome gets Bard though.

Still a fan and my go to daily driver when it comes to browser. I changed and never looked back. The speed is what has kept me using it.
