Breakfast ideas

Cornish pastie or chicken curry pie from Bread ahead..

Shut up! It's been years since I had a pie from Bread Ahead, Cornish was my favourite. There are NO better pies anywhere else in this country.

smoothies r lekker started drinking them last year, no particular recipe - yet :) but just how much fruit juice (sugar) can one drink a day? 500ml - 1L?

can they be made the night before & kept in the fridge?

how long before they go off?

what about veggie smoothies? anyone have recipes?

My breakfast is bran flakes, milk, with cranberries or strawberries or dates.

This is a very wise decision that u taken. Now, do it right.

They are best when fresh. If you leave them all sorts of chemical processes like oxidation start occurring making them lose some nutritional value.
Would not store longer than overnight.

Mine was very simple.
250ml x Low fat Yohgurt
250ml x Low fat Milk
3 x Bananas
And I added 5ml of caramel essence to give it a slightly less banana taste.

Tonight I will be making the same smoothie but will also be adding 2 boiled eggs to my meal(not in the smoothie). I was still pretty hungry at lunch time. Think the smoothie was just a bit too liittle

Awesome thanks, will definitely be trying one on Monday morning.

Many thanks, if I like the first I will be sure to use this for some variety.

Add some oats or bran to it and let it sit for like 3 mins, thickens up nicely ;)

Can you also add the oats in the night before?

Cornish pastie or chicken curry pie from Bread ahead and a 750ml can of Monster... that's my morning routine :)

On this subject, how bad are pies for you really?

My generic recipe for smoothie

Let's start with the crust:

- Take 1 thin layer of dough, then spread cheap & nasty layer of fat (margarine)
- Repeat 6 or 7 times for that "flaky pastry" effect

Next, drop a blob of greasy filling made from cheap & nasty ingredients. Cut into shapes, package in plastic and freeze until baking is required. Your digestive system had better hope you get one that was baked in the last few hours, and not left in the heating rack for a day.

Yep ..... I often make a 1L smoothie the night before and add the oats. By the time morning comes, they've soaked up so much that they're heavenly soft. You do need to add more liquid though because they have soaked up a lot but ja, yummy!

I use the b-fast oat type things (and I hate oats), a bit of honey, some yoghurt, bananas and milk.
Blend the sucker the night before and store in the fridge, add a little bit more milk the next day as it tends to thicken a crap load over night.

The B-fast really makes a difference will filling me up

awesome.

I have corn flakes or weet-bix usually but I'm getting tired of it, so I'm also following this thread.

Maybe a sandwich is a good idea. Cheese, tomato, and ham, or a million other combinations. Can be prepared the previous night.

Wish I could have just have pan cakes or bacon and egg every morning :p

Didn't manage to get around to making smoothies last night as a friend was in a bit of a pickle and I rushed to help him.

Stopped at the Spar first thing this morning and got me a Low G.I wholewheat bread, some eggs and fruit juice. Boiled the eggs in the microwave and then sliced them onto the bread. Sprinkled with some salt and pepper. It was pretty good and very filling.

Still sticking to the routine and we are now taking the exercise to the next level. This morning I am stiff and sore but feeling great!
Who knew yoga can be so hard?

How do you boil eggs in a microwave?

That is a nice meal though.

Well. I put the eggs in a bowl and covered it with water just boiled in the kettle. Put a lid on the bowl and microwaved it for 7minutes on HIGH. Cooled it down and removed the shells. Perfect!

Don't they explode?

Will have to try it.

I've also heard that some people mention eggs exploding in the microwave but I am yet to experience that in the 10+ years I have done it.

I would take a wild guess and say it happens because the eggs are not fully covered with water.

Well I just tried it now and I'll never try it again. If you do use this method let them cool down completely before handling them.

I had run the eggs under cold water and was just starting to take the shell off the first one when it exploded in my hand. Luckily it exploded towards where the shell was a bit open pointing a bit sideways and away from me. If it was pointing towards my head I reckon I could have damaged/lost my sight, pretty violent affair. My t-shirt, left arm & wall was covered in hot egg, the core/yolk seems to retain a lot of heat.

I'll stick to heating a stove plate, adding boiled water to a small pot & adding eggs for 7min in future.

I take it that the core/yolk was still soft in this case? My yolk is always hard as well.

I've really never seen or experienced this. Scary to think about an egg taking out an eye.
